It took Thomasin several moments to figured out what Masami was referring to. In that time she simply sat, blinking in confusion, until it dawned on her that she had not been speaking English at all. Somewhere along the lines her brain had flipped a switch and sent her back to her native tongue, and she knew it had to have been the sudden embarrassment.
"Oh. I am sorry. I was not zinking and my tongue slipped." She paused a moment as she thought about her words. Hr tongue had slipped? Such a statement had many implications, and in English it often had a sexual connotation to it. Suddenly a grin crossed her lips and she couldn't hold back. "I am a bad girl when it comes to using my tongue it seems." She giggled at her joke and tipped the last of the beer from her bottle into her mouth, savoring the smooth flavor. The last few sips had been warm, no doubt a result of her hands warming the bottle, and somehow it made the drink that much smoother.
She placed the bottle back gently on the table, making an empty clink sound with it, before she raised her hand to catch the attention of one of the servers. When the young woman looked at her she held up two fingers and pointed at the table. She had seen this on tv, it was supposed to be a way to communicate two more drinks when speaking was not easy. The waitress nodded and brought over two more beers along with two more shots. Clearly, she had assumed that they wanted a repeat of the previous order. Thomasin was not about to send it back though, not when she was having so much fun. Instead, she paid for the drinks and smiled at Masami.
"I will try one of zese' She said as she lifted the small glass to her lips. She had watched how he had done them, tipping the contents into his mouth in a quick motion. Like a shot. Now she understood the name.
Without wasting another second she tilted her head back and tossed the liquid into her mouth. Instantly her tastes were overwhelmed with the strong burning sensation of the liquor. It clouded her judgment and burned her throat. Her face squinted and she gasped after swallowing. She wasn't expecting it to be so hard. Even breathing fire didn't burn like this.
