Jii was sitting crosslegged on a bench near the nurse's office, breathing deeply and slowly in her best effort to calm her frazzled nerves. She had been persuaded by a friend to make an appointment with Dr. Bryndisarson to talk about the issue that had been troubling her for the past week or so. Though she understood that he was a professional, and he was well equipped to handle a situation such as hers, she was still extremely apprehensive of telling a total stranger about what she had gone through.

Pulling out her phone, she frowned at the time displayed on screen, and very reluctantly stood to walk towards Valli's office. A typical hallmark she displayed when anxious, she was nibbling on her claws as she approached the door, letting out a tiny sigh as her eyes found the plaque indicating she was in the right place. Steeling herself as best as she could, she gave the door two gentle knocks, closing her eyes and turning the handle. Opening it and cautiously poking her head through, she did her best to give a convincing smile. "H-hello? Um, I have an appointment..."

Valli's office was intended to be warm and homey, and Valli tried to give that impression as well. He wore comfortable sweaters. Everything in the room--him included--tended to have a lot of muted colors. The couches were soft and inoffensive, so as to avoid anyone feeling too uncomfortable or distracted by odd patterns or anything like that.

They were absolutely built for human standards, but that was common enough on the island. In an ideal world everything would be enchanted to resize and accommodate the needs of the person using it, but that level of magic would be expensive and unweildy even at the best of times. Even so, Jii would have no issues getting up on the couch, even if it would probably be a bit big for her compared to a human.

"Jii, right?" Valli asked as he got up from his desk, neatly tucking in the chair behind him. "I didn't have a last name on the form, but I wasn't sure if it was an oversight, or if you choose not to have a family name. Or simply don't have one, I suppose." There were a mix on the island, and Valli himself didn't even have a true family name.

"Feel free to take a seat wherever," Valli said, gesturing to both the couch and the armchairs before settling in one of the armchairs himself. "Is this your first therapy session on the island?"

Off-island therapy was a very different beast, to say the least.

Jii gave a very faint, weak smile as she was invited in, nodding at Valli when he sat down. She walked over to the couch lightly, with obvious trepidation, and pulled herself up onto the cushion, scooting back and nestling in. "Um, yes...it's just Jii. We don't have any second names back home." Her arms were crossed loosely, but held tight against her chest, and she was doing everything she could to avoid making eye contact.

Every bit of her body language indicated that she was closed off and embarrassed, and her claw chewing was getting steadily more intense. "It's my first time doing this kind of thing anywhere, yeah..." Her hair was pulled back into a wild tail, made even more so by her constant fidgeting with it. "I, um...I'm sorry if I'm kind of slow with this, or if I do it wrong...this is just really hard to talk about. It's hard to think about..."

Hard to think about. So trauma, probably recent from her body language. A fairly safe assumption, but Valli showed no sign of it as he opted to try and ease her into the session.

"I have three things to tell you before we really start. The first is that I have a low-level aura which makes me appear more... presentable then I might otherwise. It doesn't impair you in any other way. The second is that whatever you say here is strictly confidential. The only times I can break the confidentiality we have here is if I believe that you or someone else is in immediate danger which might require intervention."

Valli paused for a moment, and then gave Jii a smile.

"The third thing is that, even if I see you outside this office, I won't acknowledge you unless you acknowledge me first, and I won't mention being your therapist unless you explicitly identify me as such first. I understand many people feel that therapy is something to be ashamed of, and while I don't agree, I'll absolutely respect whatever choice you make."

Clearly, Valli thought very highly of therapy overall.

"As for being slow or wrong, there's no such thing. Therapy operates at your own pace, and there are no wrong answers. Do you have any questions about how things will go?"
