She was supposed to be asleep. After all, curfew had passed a little over three hours ago. The only people who walked campus it seemed at this time of night… er, morning… were party goers and trouble makers. Granted, the city was still alive and well, but here? Silence hung over the area. Night guard was making their rounds, which ensured that few students would be found meandering around the buildings.
Luckily for Pollyanna, she didn’t have to abide by these rules. Mainly due to the fact that she wasn’t on campus to begin with.
Rather, she was far off from where she was supposed to be. Her midnight travels had placed her within the thicket of the forbidden forest. Knowing her, this occurrence would have been caused by her natural flightiness. But that wasn’t the case this time. Curiosity was her prime motivator. It had been a rough day at summer school, and what she needed now was some time to herself.
Her real self.
Her wings folded in as she carefully dove towards the ground, a mighty swoop allowing her to rest on her hind paws. Despite her relative newness to her upgraded true form, she was getting the hang of actual flight. Granted, a few nicks and scratches were clear even through her thick fur from tussles with trees, but otherwise she was getting more accustomed to her body. At this moment she found herself near a pool centered in a clearing, fortunate as flying from tree to tree was pretty exhausting. The moon above shown upon the lake, making the reflection she stared at even more illuminated. But she ignored this. She was thirsty. So she soon found herself on all fours, muzzle deep in untouched water. It wasn’t like her to be acting so… Devolved. But as time went on, more things had changed. Who she was and what she was growing to be. Her once peaceful coexistence with her two sides became a fight, a tug-of-war she started to find increasingly difficult.
Just as she attempted to reflect on that however her ears pricked to hear a rustling noise. Like something or someone was approaching. Nearly choking on the water she was lapping up, she drew up her head immediately. Her tail swung through her legs to show her apparent fear. No smiling greeting this time. Then again, she was in a spooky dark forest in the wee hours of the morning. Quickly she stumbled on her paws to hide behind up in a tree. Her claw marks now evident in the weakened bark as she hid in the boughs above. Her eyes almost glowing in both fright, anticipation, and the fact that light had reflected off from them. Her breathing was heavy, her tail unknowingly rustling the leaves. Whatever the case was, she was ready for a fight.
Or die trying. Hopefully not, though.
