Sofia's life couldn't be better right now. She had a job, and a home, and Caius...though just the third item on that list was more than enough to make her happy. She'd transferred most of her belongings from her room to his by now. She was still learning new things about him as time went by, but he was slowly opening up to her more and more, letting her in to his world, his life...sharing himself with her. Her wolf was very satisfied with the mate they'd found for themselves. He meant the world to her. Sometimes she loved Caius so much that it made her heart hurt.

The young brunette lay sleeping at Caius's side that morning. They were both typically early risers, but it was the weekend, they both had the day off, and they'd kept each other up late the previous night. Sofia was sleeping too deeply to be bothered with waking up at the usual hour. All of her sharp senses were shut down, and even her wolf was at rest. With Caius by her side, she didn't have a care in the world. She was safe, and protected, and hers. He always slept between her and the door, she wasn't sure if he did so consciously or just by happenstance, but it made her feel secure either way.

The room was filled with their quiet even breathing, it was incredibly rare for either of them to sleep in this late, but here they were. Caius slept between her and the door, a semi-instinctive thing brought on by his protective nature, he was in general very protective of those he cared about.

His children were still asleep, or at least that's what he'd assume if he was awake. Normally he'd be up and about, prepping breakfast, generally doing things to ready everyone for the day. He'd had to do such things less since Sofia joined the household, she'd been a great help to him.

So the two laid asleep, not expecting anything out of the ordinary. They'd wake up soon enough and join the day, or at least that's how thing usually would go. Caius' family wasn't usual though.

His eyes fluttered open, awoken by his watch. That soft beeping sound was regrettable not an alarm, it was meant to remind him to feed Mr. Clucker's later on in the morning. To put it more simply, Lucas had slept in late. On top of that, the house was deathly silent, no clucking, no TV in the background, not even footsteps. This was bad news for the recent Mrs. Pac-man champion of Manta Carlos.

When the triplets turned to killing time at the arcade downtown while the weather was hellish, Lucas somehow beat the two seasoned gamers. The three letters 'LUC' taunted them on that leaderboard, it was a good night for the runt of the litter. But now they were out for revenge, and not only did they ditch him for their evil plan, they took the darn chicken.
Lucas was as peeved as a half asleep adolescent could get which is surprisingly not that much. These instances became normal over the years, especially since he got better, it was part of being the youngest. In a weird sense, he appreciated them for that, it was almost as if he was never sick for all those years. Still, he wanted that darn chicken back.

Now Lucas wasn't the type to deprive his father of the much needed sleep until now, as it would be worse for the three of them to mysteriously disappear for a few hours, he could at the very least ask for permission. Judging by the closed bedroom door, neither of them wanted to risk the plan being ruined, so he would be doing everyone a favor anyways.

So he creaked open the door, and with his half closed eyes could make out his father, and a strange yet familiar lump beside him. It couldn't be, moreso it shouldn't be. He took a few steps closely because surely it was just his mind playing a cruel trick on him, but there she was. Lucas was frozen, his comatose self in a frenzy of emotions. " Uhhhhhhhh?" He spurted out, at a complete loss for words, but loud enough to express whatever it was he was feeling.

The noise of the door opening roused Sofia from her slumber. She figured it was just Caius returning to bed, or perhaps to wake her up, though she didn't remember feeling him shift beside her...come to think of it, she could still feel his warmth next to her. It took her a while to wake her brain up all the way, but by the time the vocalizations of confusion came from the doorway, Sofia realized exactly what was going on.

Lucas was home.

She knew that Caius had children from his previous marriage, and she'd met them a few times, but they didn't typically spend time here at the house. She would run into them occasionally as they stopped by from the school to visit, but had never really gotten to know them as of yet.

Sitting up, Sofia was grateful that she had slipped into one of Caius's t-shirts before falling asleep the night before, otherwise things would be even more awkward. She gave Lucas a startled look and reached over to shake Caius awake, not sure how to even begin to deal with this situation.

He'd been sleeping peacefully, a calm dreamless sleep, a better sleep than he'd had in a long time now. Deep and warm, unaware that anything was happening around him, unaware of Lucas entering the room, unaware of Sofia waking before him, unaware of his son discovering the new relationship in what must be a very awkward and uncomfortable moment.

Then he was shaken, his sleep interrupted, his eyes opening, his enhanced senses taking everything in instantly. He smelt Lucas, he smelt Sofia, he sat up and saw them both. Awkward, yes this was very awkward, very much not how he'd wanted Lucas to find out him and Sofia were dating.

Now, he was not expecting this, not at all, he'd been hoping to sit the triplets down and calmly tell them about the relationship. "Lucas," he calmly said, deciding to push through the awkwardness, "give us a moment to get dressed, then we can talk ok."
