Tadashi's smile faltered a little when Trinity stepped back. Why is she acting like that? Does she...not want to be here with us? He gulped and swallowed that last thought. It was too painful to think about that possibility. Surely she was just nervous at finally having a family again.

He didn't back up when the other two did. Tadashi just stood there close to both of them and waited for one of them to make the first move. His smile returned in full force as Tomo did one of the things she was best at- playful teasing. Leave it to her to smash through any nervous ice. He also looked to Trinity and added, "Just relax, we're family. Enjoy being together again."

Tadashi might have been able to stop Tomo from jumping into a hug with Trinity, but he really didn't want to try that. The truth was that he wanted to hug them both too. His two sisters were finally back with him. There was bound to be some awkwardness but he was sure they could work through that. Rather than leap forward like Tomo, he slowly and calmly stepped forward to try to put his arms around his sisters.

"You are going to have to tell us how you got a name like that though."

She
Vero looked up again, and the look on her face definitely was something. Her eyes narrowed at Tomomi. Her light blue eyes seemed to just be icy as she looked at both of them. How could they immediately jump up like that? She grew up with her own family, not with them. They're strangers to her... not family.

When Tomomi hugged her, to say Vero stiffened would be a huge understatement. The glare coming from her towards Tomomi seemed to grow by the second. This just intensified when Tadashi joined the hug as well. She did not move a muscle, and didn't return the hug.

She took a deep breath as she wiggled out of the hug. She held her hands in front of her as she looked at the two of them. "I am going to be honest. I don't know what it has been like for you two, but I've spent 14 years with a family. My family. We may be related by blood, but..." She huffed as she looked away for a second. "You two are just strangers to me."

Tomo immediately felt Trinity stiffen, and she could almost sense the coldness radiating from her. Tomo immediately backed up three, four steps and looked at Trinity. She knew when someone didn't want physical contact but Trinity was just outright slapping it away. What was her problem? Her problem became clear when Trinity stated they were strangers. Those words hit Tomo somewhere deep, and they were incredibly painful and stung like hell. But Tomo didn't care about herself. She automatically turned to look at Tadashi, took a step closer to him, and then she glared at Trinity. Tomo's and Trinity's glares were on the same level when it came to coldness, and they even looked really similar. Tomo bared her teeth a bit, enough to show the tips of her sharp canines, and took a step closer to Trinity, her hands fisted. But otherwise she was loose. Just like a cat who knows it's prey can't escape.
"Then, what the fuck are ya doin' here? I know there weren't any other bakenekos on this island, I checked. So you're from outside. And, it seems, away from that family of yours. How about you go back to them, if the only thing ya can do to us is reject us. 'Cos I ain't one to stand and watch some stranger hurt my brother."
Tomo didn't sound hostile, not outright. But there was a dangerous tone in her voice, she sounded predatory. She sounded like the alley cat she was, tough and strong from growing up surrounded by adversity. Different from a snobby bitch like this girl in front of her.
Tomo would never, never, call this person her sister.

Tadashi felt very cold inside. Like someone had just sucked out all the happiness he had just been experiencing and left nothing in its place. She didn't want them. She already had a family and her real siblings were just figments of her past to be discarded. He wasn't going to cry. He wasn't. He blinked a few times to keep the tears from coming and then took two steps back from Trinity. Enough to give her space but not enough to make it seem like he was giving up.

He balled up his gloved fists for a second as he struggled to keep his composure and then he forced himself to take a breath and release them again. There was no anger in his face, just disappointment and sadness. "You don't know what it has been like. Our lives have been very different."

Tadashi moved closer to Tomo and put one hand on her shoulder. It wasn't grabbing her or holding her back, just... laying there. It was letting her know that he was still there. "I'm ok Tomo," he lied and then added in a whisper, "you fighting will only make it hurt more."

As he turned his gaze towards Trinity again Tadashi's lip practically trembled, struggling to keep from frowning. There was no way he could even fake a smile at this point. "Like it or not you are our sister and you are a part of our family. Why are you here though? We're here because we have to be. Are you just visiting to make us miserable?"

She
Vero’s eyes immediately softened when she realised what she said. She really didn’t mean it... well, she kind of did. She didn’t know them, she was raised far away with likely different circumstances. She had come here fully expecting them to treat her like a stranger, and for her to do the same. But... she had come here with the hope of that changing.

She took a deep breath as she kept composure. Even with Tomo’s reaction, she kept her back straight, feet together and hands placed neatly in front of her. She then looked at Tadashi, her eyes father softer. “I apologise for what I said.” She spoke a lot softer as she did a small bow in apology. “I came to the island upon discovering bakeneko that looked like me...” She looked down at herself, but was mostly looking at the ground. “I... don’t know you. That’s just a truth, we’ve been raised separately for 14 years.” She had a factual tone to her voice, but she seemed to be trying to be gentler with her words.

Her shoulders slumped a little bit as she broke her composure. She kept her gaze towards the ground. “But I’d come to this island in the hopes of us not being strangers.” She sounded honest, and her face was a lot softer. Her voice sounded calm and collected, but it wouldn’t be too hard to pick out the hope, sadness and regret in it.

Tomo gently put her own hand on Tadashi's as she kept glaring at Trinity. But the glare softened a bit when Tomo saw the girl's expression change and she apologized. It seemed like Tomo wasn't the only one in their family who talked without thinking first. But it didn't change the fact that Trinity had hurt Tadashi. Tomo glanced at her brother, then at the girl in front of her. Tomo looked at her, really looked at her. Tomo saw Trinity was struggling slightly, her face pointed to the ground and her voice packed with barely discernible feelings. Tomo felt bad for her, but was also still angry and bitter. She and Tadashi had both suffered. But this girl seemed to be doing just fucking great, with her obvious expensive clothes and high-class demeanor. Obviously Tomo didn't know about her past. But Tomo knew the look of someone who had gone through adversity. Trinity did not have that face. And yet, they were related. They were sisters.
Tomo sighed and drew her glare back. Her gaze was now normal, but like Tadashi she couldn't bring herself to smile.
"I guess I shoulda considered your reaction could be like this. Not all are as free spirited as me an' bro."
Tomo squeezed Tadashi's hand a bit.
"What ya wanna do then, stranger? Go get coffee or somethin'?"

Trinity seemed to be genuinely sorry for how her words had come across. It seemed like maybe she just wasn't sure how to deal with the fact that she was finally meeting her siblings again. That didn't change how much her words had hurt him but it did change how Tadashi wanted to approach this conversation. He didn't want her to be hurt either. It wouldn't have mattered if she was the meanest person in the world. She was still his sister and hurting her in return was wrong. The slumped shoulders and emotion in her voice just reinforced his decision. They could take things slow and let everyone get used to the fact that the trio was back together again.

Tomo's hand on his was comforting. Regardless of what happened with Trinity, at least he would still have her. Comforting enough that he couldn't help making a joke. "So free-spirited that sometimes I think you need a leash," he laughed and poked at Tomo before looking back at Trinity.

"Alright then, let's try to start this over. Maybe we should get something to eat or drink- make things a little more casual. It is very nice to finally meet you Trinity," he stated in a calm and measured voice. He still wasn't exactly ready to smile at her but he didn't appear to be as upset anymore. It sounded like Trinity had everything she could have ever wanted with this other family of hers. That was something Tadashi didn't really understand. How could he? The old man had been kind to him but he was just his owner. Esumi had also been nice enough but as much as she tried to treat him like her child she was more of a caretaker. A teacher and a boss who ultimately had disappeared from his life as soon as the police came to collect him. His only family was standing right there in the courtyard. "We're not trying to take away whatever you have with your other family, but I think I can speak for both of us in saying we would also like to not be strangers. We did hug you and all. Sorry if we were a little too excited."
