Exploring

Aiva was doing some more exploring of the school. She was pretty bored. It was around 7:00 in the evening and most people had plans considering it was a Friday night. Aiva, however didn't know many people, and had not committed herself to anything this evening.

She walked along the hallway and noticed the large, wooden french doors. There was a brass plate above that read 'Ballroom'. She turned the handle to the room and stepped inside.

She had never seen anything like it in her whole life. The room was absolutely breath taking. She walked into the center of the room. She looked up to the ceiling. Above her hung the most beautiful chandelier she'd ever seen. She wasn't use to such exquisite furnishings, for she grew up in an small town, small house, nothing compared to this. She noticed a door on the left side of the room. She made her way towards it, hearing only the clicking of her heels on the marble floor. Inside the ajoining room was the grand staircase. She was surprised that there was no one around. She thought perhaps the ballroom would be packed on a friday night, even though there were no organized parties taking place. However, the place was completely empty. She thought she could scream at the top of her lungs, and no one would hear.

Ember was walking around the school, feeling a bit bored. The sun was already srating to disappear behind the horizon and not many people were around inside the school. She had her iPOD with her, so at least while she was exploring, she'd enjoy some of her music to listen to. "To let you blame it on me and set your guilt free. I don't want to hold you back now love..."She sang in almost a whisper to Evanescence's Lacrymosa.

As she wandered along, she saw a door, opened a crack. Ember read the sign that said "Ballroom", and entered, curious to see what it looked like inside. The room reminded her of the Ballroom in the Disney Classic "Beauty and the Beast", everything spotlessly clean and Ember felt as though she were in a trance and she couldn't stop looking at everything with amazement. She went back to the real world when she noticed that she wasn't alone. There was another girl,a lso amazed by the Ballroom. Ember turned down her music and approached the girl.

"Hi, so, what do you think of the Ballroom?" She asked, trying to start up some small talk. "Isn't it beautiful? I'm Ember, by the way."

Aiva jumped at the sound of a voice. She had thought she was alone. She turned around to see a girl around her age.

"It is absolutely gorgeous," she replied, her eyes following up the staircase and across the balcony.

"I'm Aiva. It's nice to meet you, Ember. What an interesting name," she said, turning to face Ember. "Could I assume your power has something to do with fire?"

Ember followed Aiva's gazeup the stairs and around the balcony. "Yeah, it really is gorgeous. Do you know for what occasions they use the ballroom? I don't."

Ember laughed. "Yea, I have the power to control fire. Apparently, according to my parents, when i was born small fire balls rolled out before me, so the doctors thought i was in danger or something, but i wasn't. I had created those fire balls. Aiva, that's an interesting name too. What does it mean?"

"I don't know what they use it for either. Maybe if they had a dance or something? althought I don't think the fall festival is taking place here. I could be wrong. I have only been here for a couple days."

Aiva, that's an interesting name too. What does it mean?"

"To be honest I don't know what it means. I think it was just a name my parents liked. It has nothing to do with my power though. I just found out a had a power like..." she paused to think, "..three months ago, I guess. So I'm a newbie at all this power stuff," she laughed.

"Although, my brother has the fire power. And they found out about that when he was a baby too. It got so out of control when he'd cry." She didn't really remember, considering she was barely 1 years at the time. However, her dad had whipped out the video camera a couple times and she'd watched it when she was older.

"You may be right, but maybe they use it for like formal occasions. I've been here for about a month now. Have you found a roommate?"

"Oh, well i already told you how i got my name." Ember laughed. "Well, what's your power? Even if it's not fire, i could still help you out, you know controling it and stuff, that is, if you want." Ember suggested. She loved helping people, and hoped Aiva would let her help her.

Have you found a roommate?"

"Yes I have. My roommate is Vivien. Do you know her? She seems really nice, although I don't know her that well."

"My power is invisibility. I also train in martial arts though. Basically, I'm having trouble staying invisible for a long time. I think all I need is practice. Although, considering I am new at this, maybe I'm wrong."

Aiva turned away from the staircase and began looking at the various pictures hanging on the wall.

"Vivien? Yeah, I've met her. I don't really know her that much either. But since you're roommates, you'll get to know eachother more," Ember said with a smile.

"Really? How long can you stay invisible, and how do you go invisible anyway? Well, my power is fire, but just like you, I'm trained in martial arts as well." Ember watched as Aiva looked at all of the paintings hanging on the walls. Ember joined her, but stepped closer to the artwork to get a better view. "These paintings are beautiful, aren't they?"
