When Kal basically asked Diego out his brain momentarily paused just to re-process those words.
"Maybe you can join me sometime."
Oh shit, no one had ever asked Diego out. Or, well, no one he'd actually been attracted to had. Diego had been asked out by chicks but he was gay as fuck so he always turned them down. So this situation was so surreal, Diego was having trouble believing it. But some part of him obviously accepted it before the rest of his brain 'cos he had a happy grin on his face and he nodded eagerly, his blush as deep as ever.
"I would never say no to a good smelling coffee shop! It's a date~"
Diego answered and snickered.

Diego was almost too giddy to notice how obvious Kal made his missing hand. But as he waited for the money his attention was drawn to it and his reaction wasn't really a big one. His brows rose just a bit from surprise. How hadn't he seen that before? The guy was missing a hand, you'd think that'd be obvious. Well, Diego had been just a bit distracted by Kal's face...
Diego was kinda dumb, but even he could kinda guess that Kal wanted him to see the hand. To kinda gauge his reaction. And he would see that Diego wasn't really fazed by it. Hell, back in his old neighbourhood there'd been people with missing fingers, ears, eyes and whole limbs. One hand was nothing. Well, obviously it was something for Kal.
"Thanks!"
Diego said with a smile when he took the money and rang it up, putting the tip in the tip jar behind the counter. Diego grinned at Kal and adjusted the flower crown that was still on his head.
"How about a flower crown as a freebie? You'd rock it, I can tell."
Diego chuckled, not really expecting Kal to say yes. It was stereotypical but it was true that barely any guys Diego offered the crowns to took them.

A date, the words echoed in Kal's head as his smile responded for him. How he got himself into this was beyond him. Must've been the god damn insomnia... is what he might've said to himself earlier. But after noticing that fond little twist of amusement in him yet again bouncing around giddily in his ribcage, it was hard to blame anything else. Maybe it actually was time for him to try to get into the dating scene again. He could stop fawning over his immortal boss and instead try to date someone who is more or less closer to his league (unless it turns out that Diego is actually immortal, then everything's just the way it is again--but he'd actually seem interested in Kalvin this time, at least).

Huh, Kalvin thought after he'd seen Diego's very minimal reaction to his stub. He must've seen worse things in his life. Maybe he was one of those immortals even, who'd seen gruesome war and things like that. Or maybe he just didn't care--which would be nice. Kalvin zipped up and placed the wallet back in his pocket. He began to collect the bouquet but paused when Diego offered the freebie.

Kalvin glanced up at the one around Diego's vibrant crown. It suited Diego, Kalvin wasn't sure it'd suit him though. He shook his head and shrugged. "Not much of a flower crown person. Sorry. Maybe next time," he said as he collected his bouquet of lavender and roman chamomile. "See you," he said with one last glance at Diego before he slipped out the front door of the quaint little flower store, leaving the little bubble that overflowed with sweet fragrances and scents. Well, he had at least brought a bit of it with him. He even got a date to boot.

"Hey, no problem bro! More for me, right~?"
Diego assured and laughed a little, tilting the flower crown on his forward in a greeting kinda like in those old movies.
Before Kal took the bouquet Diego took time to grab one of the small cards behind the counter and write his name and number on it. He slipped it into the bouquet and smiled at Kal.
"Just so I can hold you onto that coffee, and flower crown. You did say next time."
Diego's grin was a bit mischievous, but he wasn't actually gonna make Kal wear a flower crown. Although he really wanted to see it...

"See ya around, have a good day!"
Diego hollered after Kal and waved, but the moment Kal was out of sight Diego let his head drop onto the counter with a bang. His face felt like it was burning and he basically fell apart now that he didn't have to act cool anymore. He'd gotten a date. With a hot guy. Hot older guy. Gabe would not believe-!
...Scratch that, Diego would not tell Gabe. Diego's cynicism kicked in, as he told himself that Kal would probably not even be into him. Diego was obviously younger and probably childish in Kal's eyes, he'd probably asked him out out of pity. Diego hadn't been exactly subtle about being into him, after all. Shit, this sucked...
Diego was kinda spiraling, he could tell. And when he started spiraling his therapist had told him to take time for himself. Diego was the type to work stuff over on his own before being able to ask for support. So, Diego took a breath, pushing back the depressing emotions and weight creeping up on him. He stood up and went to the back room, hollering as he entered
"Hey mom! Can I take the rest of the afternoon off?"
