Taeyang felt ill. It had been a while since he'd last felt so terribly. His stomach rolled, his head ached. Both Maruru and Hisashi had tried to help him, Maruru through her small healing spells and Hisashi through grooming. He was grateful to be clean and although Maruru's touch was cool, it couldn't fix the aches or the fever.

He'd headed towards the infirmary at last out of desperation. Even then, he would have been satisfied with lying in his room until he'd sweated out the aches and heat and the terrible headaches and nightmares, but... Maruru had started crying.

So, here he was, no doubt weaving on his feet as he tried to make his way to the sickbay in the hopes that someone there could fix him.

It was then that he froze in horror, aware of the creature looming in the courtyard before him. This was.... this wasn't real, was it?

<div align=center>

His eyes, however, said his vision held true.

Ifrit, a terror from his nightmares stood before him in all of its hulking glory, symbolizing the flames in its distorted figure. Taeyang despaired, dropping to his knees even as he leaned against the doorway to support himself. The weakness was getting worse.

And again, he'd done something wrong.

Again, he'd brought bad things upon those around him - because he had no illusions of being able to handle this particular creature; not at its full strength!

He would need help.

And probably a lot of it.

<div align=center>As luck would continue to follow the monster, it seemed like his first few days would only spiral from awkward to bad. He managed to land smack dab in the middle of the school bug, and he wasn't at all used to human viruses, let alone supernatural ones. So of course he would take extra precautions in getting healthy. If only this thermos of orange juice would somehow taste better...

After a few sips of the sour beverage he ended up dumping it in the trashcan right outside the school. Not only was he trying to do the human thing of consuming healthy things, but was abiding by other standards as well. A few squirts of hand sanitizer, a scarf and sweater later Edsel felt more comfortable walking around the premises. Sure, he was a little toasty, but if he really wanted to he could mutate his body to adjust optimum conditions. Then again, he really didn't want to gross anyone out. He was odd enough as it is for that.

So with a casual stroll Edsel tried not to look at anything or anyone, instead he focused on the path ahead of him. His tail, like always, dragged heavily behind him, ultramarine fur picking up the dust along the sidewalk. No wonder why he never walked in mud. His ears were compressed with his pair of headphones, rendering the useless for picking up any other noise. His boots stopped in their tracks however when the faint amount of sun seemed eclipsed, his eyes tracing from the ground to what was above him. And that was when his mouth went agape.

There was another monster, much scarier than him, looming way over his head. Immediately that instinct to get the hell out of the scene flooded through his system, except... There was someone there! The rest of the courtyard was uncharacteristically empty, though most were inside trying recover from the illness. So perhaps it was up to him to try to make things right. God help him.

Though it took a second of mental persuasion Edsel sighed and figured it was the proper thing to do to protect whomever this guy was. The large monster ironically wasn't as scary as a normal person, for at least he could relate to the species a bit and not have to worry about uncertainties or inequalities. Putting away the iPod fumblingly Edsel dropped to all fours naturally and dashed before skidding to a stop before the distressed stranger in question. In a reluctant course of action the sound of popping bones was heard as thick, ten inch long spikes tore his clothes and ran down his vertebrae, all the way to the tip of his tail- now being armed and dangerous. Squared pearly whites were replaced with jagged fangs with canines being long enough to look like they could rip someone apart, his claws not being too far off in mutation. His back arched and his tail lifted a bit off of the ground to guard the stranger. As a soft growl began to erupt from his throat, so did that glimmer of doubt. He really had rushed into this. And now he may as well be in a world of hurt. Just what was coming over him..?</div>

Taeyang didn't know what to do. There wasn't anyone else here, so at the very least, he was relieved (in a sense) that he'd be the monster's only victim. Of course, that wasn't to say that Ifrit wouldn't continue seeking out others to bring catastrophe to after he'd been disposed of.

The mixed Asian boy struggled to his feet, leaning against the wall. Of all times to be sick, this was undoubtedly the worst. He could feel Hisashi and Maruru protesting his movements, but even they understood that this was important.

Hisashi took to the air, shrieking out a challenge in the way only crows could. Though Ifrit might swat at him, Taeyang knew that his bird friend was more than capable of nimbly taking care of himself.

He'd nearly dropped again when he saw another person (?) approaching. There was a moment of confusion and then distinct terror when he realized that the said humanoid was blue in color. Admittedly, it wasn't the color that scared him as much as the claws and spikes that shoved through his clothing as though they were but threads from a spider's web.

It wasn't until the other person settled in front of Taeyang, crouched defensively, that he realized this was another student - someone that was trying to protect him.

This, more than anything, bolstered his spirits.

Ifrit stared down at them as though they were but bugs waiting to be stepped upon, but he didn't have time to be afraid.

"Maruru, focus on small healing spells for now," he murmured quietly to his leaf fairy friend. He knew no one else could see his familiars - but for the boy he'd met in his first days on campus - unless they allowed them to.

He settled into a more defensive stance as opposed to the awkward sprawl he'd originally landed in and drew paper from his pocket. It was treated paper, blessed by a temple priest and cooked in the appropriate oils and waters for sealings. While he'd used small objects that he could keep with him for Maruru and Hisashi, he knew that something small wouldn't work for Ifrit.

Defeating the fire-based creature, after all, was going to be difficult - and quite possibly beyond their skill. What he needed to do was seal the monster away as he'd sealed the monsters that had appeared in the temple back in Japan.

And this time he wasn't going to let anyone die.

"Hi," he greeted the stranger, though this was perhaps a bad time. "This might be a bad place for you," he added, thinking that he'd at least give this person a fair warning. Taeyang had to face this monster, but no one else had that obligation - though he'd be immensely grateful if he stayed.

Quite frankly, he was terrified. He'd balled that fear up and shoved it down into the depths of his mind, but he was still afraid.

Then, hopeful, he asked, "What can you do?" Admittedly, he wasn't sure if the other person - male, he thought - would be able to respond given the shiny new fangs, but it was a tactical matter now. Taeyang's own abilities were very limited. Still, at least they had these few brief moments to try to come up with a plan - Hisashi was diving at Ifrit, keeping the monster distracted as it swiped at the crow.

<div align=center>It didn't take him more than a second to realize how much of a bad idea thus was. Here he stood, with an appearance enough to even make him jump if he unexpectedly walked past a mirror. All in order to protect a guy he didn't even know to a monster he couldn't fathom. Still his animalistic stance remained, as he figured out just what he was going to do to help.

Though he was busy standing off and baring his teeth, he did hear the guy talk to another as if he was trying to get a plan together. But there was no one there. Still Edsel didn't think much of it for A) it could have been part of his power and B ) he had bigger things to think about. Like what he was going to do. Why again did he feel the need to risk his life for this?

Suddenly his ear twitched when the other spoke at him. He looked back over his shoulder, his face more grotesque than it had been five minutes ago. Despite his appearance he still very much was the young man he was before, and he let out a chuckle behind bared teeth. "No kidding." He replied simply to the comment regarding his safety. Of course this was a bad position to be in. And yet he wouldn't leave until this other monster was eradicated. The other asked him another question, to which he backed up a bit to side beside the other, still ready to pounce as a moment's notice. "I can make more of this happen. But I doubt you wanna see any of that." When speaking like this he spoke with a slight lisp, his body not used to spontaneous transformation. Still he rumbled another indescribable growl in his throat, taking the lead once more. He wanted to help, sure. But he also wasn't sure just how to do so.

Growing a few more spikes in other places such as his elbows Edsel this time only glanced back as he refused to take his attention of of the much larger monster. "Hey, you have idea how to take this guy down?" He doubted it. But perhaps he had something to do with it summoning in the first place. "Knowing its weaknesses would be nice."</div>

Taeyang gave the newcomer a once over before returning his gaze to Ifrit.

"Do whatever helps you most," he said bluntly. He'd seen far worse in the slaughter at the temple and this person, at least, didn't seem to want to bring harm to them. Examining Ifrit, he could see strong muscles in the creature's arms and legs. He seemed hunched forward, not unlike a beast that moved on all fours.

It was noteworthy. It meant that Ifrit might be slower on two legs and the fire that wreathed him was strongest in his extremities.

"Go for joints," he suggested, sweating. "I'll prepare a seal for it."

Which probably wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to the other boy, but it was all he could offer before turning his concentration to the seal he held, making signs over it as he concentrated. Unspoken words formed on his lips as he prepared to use the seal.

Ifrit had no care for their pause, however. He smashed his fists into the ground before them, destroying the carefully tended courtyard as he roared into their faces, the heat and suggestion of flames their only hint as the fire licked its way from his throat and into the air where they were.

He swiped at them, wanting to remove the immediate humans he could see. His children had called him and so he would bless them with his presence, bringing the flames to the land they'd brought him to so they might bless more of these creatures, baptizing them with fire.

He tipped his head back in another feral roar before breathing red heat upon the flagstones of the courtyard.

"Um, anything you can do to distract it would be good," Taeyang said, his voice going a bit high pitched at the end, his panic nearly palpable. He'd dodged the rocks Ifrit's fists had churned up, but had nearly been swatted like a fly. He'd barely thrust himself back in time to dodge the swipe, and the heat had his blood warming, drawing red to the surface of his skin.

<div align=center>Finding a way to size up the situation, the hunched over monster-boy kept his eyes on the gigantic creature with bared teeth. He hopped back and forth with each breath of fire in attempts to dodge. The first caught him off guard, and yet it gave Edsel an idea- how did it feel about water?

Before he could ask the much more knowledgable stranger Edsel nodded at his suggestions. With that he leaped forward under the creature's legs, leaping up his back and tackling his shoulders. He unhinged his jaw, sinking his needle-like fangs into the joint connecting its arms. His claws served to anchor him in the creature, but his efforts were soon in vain as he was cast like a ragdoll to the ground. He struggled, a limp in his leg clear that something popped when he was thrown against the cobblestone. But he couldn't give up. Not yet.

He hoisted himself back to all fours. Just in time to hop out of the way of another blast. He hissed wildly at the creature before hopping to the fountain, for once standing on two legs. He looked to the other in confusion to what he meant. Seal? Was he responsible for all this? No matter. Edsel further ruined his clothes by stumbling in the water in order to stand in the centerpiece. If needed, he'd leap out of the way just in time. But his distractions were running out, and he didn't know how many more beatings he could take. </div>

Taeyang flinched in sympathy when he saw the way the stranger was thrown. Immediately, Maruru went to the other student. Though she was invisible to him, the effects of her magic wasn't. He'd feel coolness in his leg before the pain eased out. The injury wasn't healed - Maruru wasn't old enough for that yet - but the pain would be gone. It wouldn't distract him during the fight.

Hisashi, on the other hand, could interfere a bit more. The invisible crow cawed and instead of darting in and out of Ifrit's face, raked his claws down the side of the creature's shoulder, drawing its attention and ire.

Not that Edsel would know that. Oh, man, this was going to get confusing. Taeyang returned his attention to the paper he held. He only needed a few minutes, but fights could be decided in seconds.

He hoped they'd be able to hold out.

Ifrit, on the other hand, was annoyed. The bird was annoying. Though he'd ignored it in favor of the choicer humanoids that stood before him, the bird's talons suggested otherwise. He blew fire at it, distracted, and swiped for it.

He missed on both accounts. Hisashi was far more nimble than the hulking fire-god.

Annoyed, Ifrit bared his teeth and growled threateningly. Hisashi, however, only scolded him with his caws and swiped at him again. When Ifrit swiped for him this time, he landed the hit and Hisashi when flying into the stranger's face, stunned.

<div align=center>So much was happening right now, and honestly Edsel regretted having any part of it. He couldn't leave the poor guy alone or at least what he thought was alone. The pain hidden in his leg from being tossed around like a ragdoll had mysteriously disappeared in a matter of a few seconds, despite the purple tinted blood still seeping out. Confused, he looked up to the other boy. But he was busy. How did that even happen..?

Before he could ponder the answer however he looked up to see the claw marks magically appearing on the monster's face. Looking in disbelief, he tilted his head. It seemed distracted for now, but he knew that wouldn't be for long. Edsel had to think quick- should he manipulate his body again? What would be best for this scenario? But as he was thinking some invisible force smacked him on his face, thus causing him to yelp surprisingly and stumble backwards into the fountain. And he was soaked.

A few seconds later he pulled himself back up from the rather deep water, hopping to the ledge and looking very much like a wet cat, on all fours and shivering terribly. His soaked blue fur on his tail huddled close to him for warmth but to no avail. He looked at the stranger as if he had the distinct feeling this was all his doing.

"Y-I... What's going on here?" He asked, fangs chattering. He was feeling things that weren't there and was with a stranger that had the only way to kill the giant monster. "Where did this guy come from anyway?" He asked him, figuring that should have been brought up before. But now common sense was overriding animalistic instincts. He needed to rationally think before striking again. </div>
