Early Morning

It was barely even light when Sohalia woke, and you could tell by the silence, barely anyone was awake yet. But then again, how many people woke up very early on the weekends. So Sohalia had crept out of bed, gotten dressed quickly and grabbed her school bag. She skipped breakfast, as she always did, and stopped in the hallway to think.

'Where is the most deserted place...

...somewhere noone will bother me....

...a place that nobody goes to...

She tapped her foot on the ground, biting her lip in thought until she realized, the third flor. She raced up the steps, but upon arriving at the top of them, to the third floor, she found everything covered in a thick layer of dust, with the exception of a few sets of shoeprints, one looking oddly recent.

She headed into the last classroom on her right, but as she opened the door, she heard a voice from inside, or was it two? She couldn't be sure, but no matter who it was, she opened the door and waltzed in. But, she was met only but the silence, no footprints here. Only dust...which made her..."Achoo!" she sneezed. She wrinkled her nose and looked around, she had heard a voice, and she knew it.

Maybe she'd imagined something, she shrugged, waving away what she thought she had heard. She cleared off a desk (after a few coughing fits from the dust) and started to scribble on the paper, some assignment or homework. She wasn't putting in too much effort, when she heard the stairs creak. She walked towards the doorway, to see who was coming.

Why was she up so early?

Danica asked herself that question as she danced down the hallways, singing to herself.

That morning, she'd popped out of bed at 6:30, barely tired. She'd pulled on her favorite pair of True Religions, her turquoise Uggs, and a t-shirt before grabbing her iPod, her backpack, and heading down the stairs.

Now she munched on a banana, listening to Gwen Stefani's new song as she wandered around the empty school. She'd been singing loudly, no one around the shut her up. She'd cartwheeled across the floors, something she'd always wanted to do.

And she danced, wigging her hips, her arms, anything she felt like. Because no one was watching.

"THEY LIKE THE WAY WE DANCE! THEY LIKE THE WAY WE WORK! THEY LIKE THE WAY THAT LAMB IS GOING 'CROSS MY SHIRT!" Danica sang as she marched down a flight of stairs. "WIND IT UUUUUP!" She twirled in circles on the landing before coming to a halt, her eyes widening in surprise.

A girl was staring at her from inside a classroom.

"Uh... hi..." Danica said, starting to laugh. "Um... yeah..."

Sohalia heard the voice before she saw the person, of course, with a voice like that, she was surprised the whole school wasn't awake. It was like nails on a blackboard to her and she couldn't help but wince slightly and look away with disgust. Finally the girl came into view, still singing loudly, something about lamb? Sohalia honestly didn't care about the words, she was more concentrated on making it stop.

When finally her prescence was noticed, she crossed her arms over her chest and leaned against the doorway, smiling way too sweetly for it to be serious. In a sugar coated voice, she commented, "You know, it must be pretty embarrassing for someone to hear you singing like that. But you know what they say," she went on, her smile widening, "the people who know the least, know it the loudest."

Danica laughed, and Sohalia gave a mock laugh with, ignoring her hesitant words, "This is one of those things what would be really funny if they weren't happening to you, isn't it?" she asked, her smile starting to fade. Finally, she was frowning, standing up and taking a few steps forward before going on, "But it really isn't as funny as it is annoying, I'm surprised the windows don't brea-" she started, but was interrupted as the door to the classroom she was just in slammed shut.

Strangely, there was neither wind nor anyone pushing it. She blinked.
