It had been an average day at the office for Dr. Vladimir Wolfstein. He had had the usual variety of ailments and complaints along with a yearly check-up, two flu shots, and a patient follow-up after a few routine blood tests.

All in all, it had been a fairly busy, but stress-free, day. Nothing out of the extraordinary had happened, and none of his patients were severely distressed, in pain, or having chronic issues. It was basically all a doctor could ever ask for.

Looking at his list of appointments for the day, he spied a name he did not recognize, Yoonyoung Kim. Were they a new patient? He looked at the accompanying paperwork and saw, that yes, they had to be since their file was empty and they most certainly were not a referral.

"Doctor, your next patient is here to see you," the medical receptionist said as they peeked their head into his office. "I placed Miss Yoonyoung Kim in room three," she added quickly right before she hurried back to her station to answer the phone.

Yoonyoung hated to admit it, but she was nervous. This was Yoonyoung's first doctor's appointment since moving to Manta Carlos. Being passed out at a hospital after being rescued by an Academy scout didn't really count. Once she had obtained a nullification bracelet, she had put health and demons—mostly demons—out of her mind.

There were more immediate matters to handle, the kind of things that came with moving to a new place. She had thrown herself into finding a job and preparing for school. Still, the mental and physical exhaustion was catching up to her. The demon had pushed her very human body into the realm of abuse multiple times, and she was still suffering for it.

Yoonyoung gingerly touched her swollen left wrist and winced. An old sprain she thought had healed had been aggravated by her latest boxing session. Work had been okay, she didn't have to use her wrist to dance, but it took several painkillers to get through the nights. She had looked online at a few questionable sources that kept trying to tell her she had symptoms for multiple terminal illnesses and concluded that she needed to see a doctor before it got any worse.

Surgery and rehabilitation was probably the worst case scenario. It would put a damper on school for sure. She was right-handed, but it was difficult to draft and sew without the left.

"Yoonyoung Kim?" The medical receptionist called out to the waiting room. Yoonyoung snapped out of her thoughts and followed the receptionist to room number three. "The doctor will be with you in just a moment," they said. Yoonyoung just sighed and pulled out her phone without sparing the receptionist another glance.

"Yoonyoung Kim?" he inquired as he entered the examination room/doctors office and saw the young woman who had been waiting to see him.

"I'm Doctor Wolfstein," he said in greeting as he took her file from the slot on the door and closed the door softly behind him.

"How can I help you today?" he asked her politely as he put Yoonyoung Kim's medical file on the counter and took a seat on a stool across from her.

"Uh, yeah," Yoonyoung put away her phone and straightened her back. "Hi." Truth to be told, she had selected this time slot on a whim because the doctor's name amused her. His appearance matched it well enough. Attractive and mysterious, but he was young. Well, at least visibly.

"So, my wrist is kind of messed up." She gave a wry smile and raised her arm. There was visible swelling and bruising at her wrist. "I sprained it badly around a month ago. Tried to give it some rest." It was a failed attempt as the demon had other ideas.

She turned her wrist and stared at it with a blank expression. "I had it properly treated when I first arrived to Manta Carlos two weeks ago, but I guess I didn't wait long enough to start doing physical activities again."

Vladimir listened very attentively to Yoonyoung as she explained why she had come to see him.

Glancing when she was done at her bruised wrist, Vladimir nodded in understanding. It did indeed appear to be swollen and discolored.

"Did the doctor that saw you originally take x-rays before they bandaged it?" he asked as he pulled out her chart.

Yoonyoung racked her brain and tried to remember what happened at the hospital. Somehow, it felt so long ago. The memories were blurred as she had been preoccupied with the process of learning about Manta Carlos and preparing herself for a new life.

After the relief that came with her nullification bracelet, she basically forgot everything else--in one ear and out the other. There was no way the doctor could tell what she had a bracelet for, right? Would he be able to help? Though, that wasn't what she was here for.

"Um, I don't believe so. I spent a lot of time passed out, but the doctor said it didn't feel broken. I assume they never took an x-ray."

Vladimir nodded in understanding, Yoonyoung 's attending physician that day had most likely been overly busy and had assumed it was just a sprain.

"They probably should have taken an x-ray," he explained as he scribbled a few things on her chart. "It's quite possible that you might have a hairline fracture and that is what is causing the swelling and discoloration," he said.

"May I?" he asked Yoonyoung, gesturing to her wrist. "I'd like to take a look at myself just to make sure nothing else is going on."
