Name: Cyrano de Bergerac
Age: 1,127 years/ Stopped physically aging at 21.
Birthday: October 13
Birth Place / Hometown: Kyoto, Japan
Gender: Male
Sexuality: It's complicated...
Species: Yokai, Tengu

Category: Student
Class: High School Senior
Grade: 12th

Appearance Description: Cy has grown physically from the Tengu he once was into something far greater.

The yokai is tall and physically fit. His black hair is about medium length with a clean shaven face, although he no longer tries to keep the former in order and simply lets it settle as it pleases. He has rather normal ears and a normal nose. His teeth are a perfect white, although his hygiene as grown somewhat more uptight since his years outside of Japan. He has no blemishes or scars on his face and he almost never has any dirt on him. Perhaps the most striking features that make the yokai easily identifiable however, are his bright red skin and humorously elongated nose. The tell-tale signs of a tengu, Cy's red skin covers the entirety of his body with no changes in hue. His nose is abnormally long, stretching out to 6 inches from his face, making it hard to cover up.

Cy's upper body is large but muscular. He has grown into a very strong and physically intimidating matial-yokai, with broad shoulders, a thick V-shaped back, large arms, and a musculature honed by literal centuries of fighting. His abdominals sport a visible eight pack, carved away along with the rest of his body from strict training and dieting to mold his body into its optimal physical form. The result of this dedication to physical and mental has rendered him the closest thing most have seen to an (ironically) drug-clean professional wrestler. His arms are slightly long but not enough for it to be noticeable to the average onlooker unless Cy were to take off his shirt.

His lower body is also equally powerful and thick, his long and built legs comprise the majority of his height. Armani's feet are slightly large for his age however, something that he was teased for growing up, but now can conceal more easily. Beyond that he has what you might expect of a normal person for their lower body, what else would there be to describe? Overall, Cyrano is a physically intimidating and impressive man, one who looks more like a wrestler than a warrior yokai.

Personality Description: The phrase, "Still waters run deep" resides strongly in Cy. Not much of a talker and more of a thinker, the tengu usually doesn't have much to say about things unless its necessary. He'll answer a question if asked of course, but don't expect him to just walk up to a stranger and start talking to people out of the blue. This doesn't mean that Cyrano is stuck up or dumb, he simply likes keeping his cards close to his chest, along with the fact that he is a rather socially inadept individual. He can't hold a relaxed conversation unless he knows the person well, he is horrible at flirting with women, and he rather prefers the solitude of nature than the busy metropolis of the city. Becoming friends with Cy in the first place is a feat in itself as the man tends to stay on the outskirts of groups more as a lone wolf than as part of the pack, it usually takes multiple encounters and exchanges for one to cement themselves in Cy's eyes as his 'friend'. The blond is still feverishly devoted to his friends, who he sees as family of sorts, but just connects with them at a slower pace than usual.

Along with being somewhat anti-social, Cyrano is also somewhat formal and hard, rarely using slang- taking careful consideration in the way he speaks so that he enunciates all of his words clearly and properly. Not one to beat around the bush, Cy likes to just jump straight into topics and speak bluntly- although truthfully. Despite these two common mannerisms, Cyrano is able to relax somewhat, a lot of it just depends on who he's around- he'll sometimes act slightly differently depending on the kind of people he's with. Productivity is a trait he holds highly, he sees the day as a time to be doing work and making progress and thus cannot fathom the notion of simply relaxing or slacking off- indeed, slackers and those who are lazy irritate the tengu greatly.

In terms of general quirks, Cyrano has a love for music in all its forms- it's one of the few things that can bring him out of his shell and relax him. He often goes camping out in the wilderness by himself for the weekends, cooking s'mores and whatnot- although he does some odd things too, such as howling with wolves or spear fishing in rivers. Besides his love of the outdoors, Cy loves to travel and explore, wishing to go around the world and see what is out there- naturally this causes him to be a rather curious fellow, often falling into misadventures by the prospect of going somewhere new. The tengu doesn't get scared easily and stays level headed despite how dire a situation can get, its a trait which might make him a leader of sorts- although Cy would cringe at the idea of having to lead people. Cy loves unhealthy food like burgers and pizza with a passion, never seeming to show any sign of needing to stop eating. One could say that Cyrus's major fears consist of running out of food to eat as well as failing people when they count on him. From behind the safety of his glasses though, Cy sees the world in a slightly different way than other people, one might almost call him an idealist of sorts. He'll look at objects or events and appreciate the symbolism or hidden meaning behind them while others will simply take it for face value, he likes to analyze things and people, his mind is a playground where he can explore the possibilities of life and play with the many hidden truths and meanings that are scattered throughout it- a typical INFJ at his core.

However...

Cyrano puts pressure on himself to do well- now while that is all fine and dandy, Cy is unhealthily obsessed with the fear of failing people when they count on him... Mostly because people don't usually count on him in the first place since he's so anti-social. Although he tries to keep calm about everything, the tengu sometimes flips out under the pressure he puts on himself to succeed. On the other side of this coin, Cy also has many positive sides to him, although he keeps most of them to himself due to his nature. The tengu is tenacious, intelligent, brave, trustworthy, loyal, resourceful, and someone you really can depend on despite Cy himself not thinking so.

Species Abilities: As a daitengu, Cyrano has a turbulent and often contradictory nature when it comes to his natural abilities as they have often been eschewed by chroniclers and writers during the centuries. Although many tengu such as Cy have grown and evolved from their primal origins as war yokai, their species abilities come back to reflect such a role through their uses.
  • Flight. Capable of sprouting wings from his back with a full fifteen foot wingspan and flying through the air at great heights and speeds. These wings are still considered part of his body however, and injuring them will in turn injure him should he retract them into his back. Additionally, the function identically to the wings of any bird of pray, and follow the same rules of flight and such.
  • Immortality. As a yokai, Cyrano doesn't age, instead ending his physical development at age 20. This can change from tengu to tengu, as some reach their full development at 60, comparatively. It is important to note though that, despite being immortal, Cyrano can still be killed in battle or the like.
  • Shapeshifting. Reflecting the tengu origin as tricksters and ominous yokai, Cyrano is capable of shapeshifting into other creatures that are either as tall as he or smaller. Although his appearance may change, his scent and other similar identifiers remain the same. Additionally, his strength and physically ability proportionally decreases to the size of the creature he is morphing into. Largely a cosmetic ability meant to fool simple humans as opposed to other supernaturals.
  • Species Weaknesses: Although the tengu is one of the most feared yet respected yokai, it does have its fair share of weaknesses that plague it. For one, Cyrano cannot enter someone else's home, nor cross its threshold, unless he is explicitly invited in by the host or was previously invited. While he has no reaction to other foreign spirits or religions, he does have a peculiar weakness to raw salt, as just touching it is enough to sap him of almost all of his power instantly- though if it's processed or added into other materials or foods, he can touch or consume it easily. Finally, perhaps the most dangerous weakness of a mature tengu like Cyrano is the temptation of 'going native' and returning to his roots as a chaotic war yokai of destruction and ruin. Once incensed, a tengu will not stop until they have satisfied their primal urge for chaos, mating with as many people regardless of gender or sexuality, laying waste without prejudice, and killing who they please without care. This primal and uncontrollable state will continue until this urge is met and the tengu's senses return to normal.

Powers: In preparation for his Journey of Endless Steps, Cyrano was trained by the grandmasters of the mountain realm in Japan for his exploratory journey. Not knowing what perils he may face, nor what strange creatures may lie in wait, the tengu dedicated his life to perhaps one of the most versatile fighting forms: the way of the blade. After departing Japan, the enchanted sword Kibou by his side, Cyrano traveled across the world for centuries, fighting strange enemies and learning about the world at large. His abilities as a war yokai are put to good use with his life as a wandering swordsman, his skill unparalleled after an immeasurable time to practice.
  • Kibou, Blade of The Grandmaster Swordsman. Unlike other Tengu, Cyrano was never a martial artist per se. Sure, he was taught the basic fundamentals that all warrior yokai are meant to know, but he never truly excelled in hand-to-hand combat despite a couple centuries of practice and studying. It was only upon being given the Journey of Endless Steps, and being gifted the magical sword Kibou, that the tengu found his true calling as a swordsman. Over the next few centuries, as he traveled across the earth by foot, sea, and sky, the yokai's skill with the magic blade grew exponentially, learning as he fought against strange and foreign creatures and demons. By the time he enrolled in Starlight Academy, his skill with the blade could be said to be beyond what humans may consider physically possible. Naturally, the downfall of such mastery over the specific enchanted blade is that, without it, his martial skill is mediocre at best, making his possession of Kibou paramount to his full optimization. Additionally, throwing raw salt or saltwater at the blade will cause it to dissolve, having been forged in the heart of the mountains. While it will reforge itself fully after 72 hours, the process is still slow...
    • Can cut a single blade of grass in two with power and precision, cleaving through materials as tough as steel like hot butter with a strong two-handed blow.
    • Capable of launching 10 ft. long shockwaves of compressed razor-sharp air with a swing of the blade. Although they lack the penetrative power of a melee attack, the compressed air is still enough to cleave through the average person's flesh as well as pierce cleanly through wood.
    • The magic sword Kibou has the ability to strike insubstantial substances as if they were physical. Forged in the heart of Mt Fuji, the blade can cut through the elements as if they were hot butter. Supernatural feats such as cutting flames in half, attacking shadows or darkness, and even striking lightning are possible with the masterfully crafted sword designed to deal with magic and might alike. Unbreakable, the sword always maintains a silver sheen, never being dirtied or stained despite a century of use.
  • Superhuman Physical Abilities (Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Stamina). As a tengu with his origins as a war yokai, Cyrano is physically more able than any human could ever achieve, accomplishing amazing feats effortlessly and fighting impossible opponents. Unfortunately, there are some downsides to this, as, similar to his overall weakness, should he have salt thrown at him, he will lose much of his strength an be crippled until the salt is removed. Other 'raw' forms of salt are additionally detrimental to him, such as saltwater, reflecting his origins as a mountain and forest yokai who would die in any form of seawater. Additionally, counteracting this blessing by the elder tengu, Cyrano posesses an 'achilles heel' in that if anyone should pierce the small of his back, he would similarly instantly be defeated from striking the pressure point.
    • Strength - Capable of bench pressing around 1 Ton with full effort. In more practical terms, can punch through a regular un-reinforced brick wall with ease.
    • Speed - Runs faster than any Olympic runner who has ever competed, moving with the grace and ease of a leaf gently being rocked by the wind. At a full sprint, with maximum effort, Cyrano can run at 60 mph, or, a mile in 1 minute.
    • Stamina - Posesses the stamina of a long distance runner, capable of enduring grueling physical activity such as running in a desert for hours on end with proper energy management. Doesn't tire easily, as well as naturally durable, able to fight continuously until his body gives out on him involuntarily.
    • Accuracy - Perhaps most in line with the Avian roots of a tengu, Cyrano posesses accuracy like that of a bird of prey, with 20/4 vision on a clear sunny day. His eye-hand coordination is good enough to cut a single blade of grass amongst many others, or spot prey from nearly a mile away.

Biography: Bul Eyal, second of his name, was born as a result of his father, the daitengu of the Kyoto region, seducing and mating with a milkmaid. Upon seeing the red skinned and long nosed humanoid upon his birth, the alarmed woman screamed and threw him out of her home into a nearby river where the tengu's father swooped in to bring his son back to the nearby mountains where he and his kin lived. The 9th century was a strange time for Bul as he began to grow, he was filled with the same insatiable curiosity that plagued most tengu, often acting as a trikster to the local humans who lived in their small towns at the foot of the mountain range in which he lived. Many of Bul's earliest years were characterized by the role of 'trickster', a mischevious youth who relished the opportunity to meddle in the lives of humans. As he slowly aged through the centuries, watching Japan change along with its people, his disposition changed as well.

It was only in the early middle ages, when the mongols attempted to invade Japan, that the tengu, like many others his age, truly learned what it meant to have skin as red as blood. Assuming the role of 'war yokai', Bul came of age in a time of incessant wars which ravaged the land. Enjoying the bloodshed and wanton dstruction, it quickly became apparent to others in his clan that Bul was a prodigal fighter, one who enjoyed the feeling of blood splattered across his tunic. For the next 600 or so years, Bul Eyal would lead his kin from the Kyoto region across the islands of Japan, watching the humans fight amongst themselves and fighting alongside them, viewing their practice of war as a sort of worship to the yokai. During this long stretch of time, Bul came of age and stopped aging physically, his body appearing like that of a 21 year old's. Baptised in the water of a river, Bul Eyal became a man in the never ending season of war that plagued the Warring States.

However, something unexpected soon happened. Christianity came to Japan.

Alarmed at the rapidly spreading, though still heavily persecuted, movement in the early 1600s, Bul naturally saw the 'peace loving' missionaries as invaders, and often tormented them whenever he could. Still, despite his efforts, more came in secret. Such persistance and determination shook the war yokai, causing him to think and reflect more deeply about how he and his kind tormented the humans and caused them strife. When Japan closed its borders to all foreigners, the grandmaster tengu from across the islands stated that there were to be 'no more wars', insisting that a new peace be allowed to exist. No longer the emotionally unstable and bloodhungry youth he once was, Bul assumed his third identity 'The protector', one who helped keep the peasants safe from other evil yokai or demons that threatened them. Casting off his role as a warmonger, Bul grew to love his new existence, fighting for something bigger than just land.

The winds of change were already in motion though, and when the Americans forced Japan to open up its borders in 1853, Bul and others knew that they could no longer live in isolation from the wider world. It was decided that one of them needed to leave Japan and go across the narrow sea to explore the world and see what was out there. Volunteering to do this, Bul was trained irgorously by the grandmasters of Kyoto as a swordsman before being gifted with the sword Kibou, 'Hope'. With both skill and sword, Bul left Japan and began his Journey of Endless Steps across the world. For the next 100 years, the tengu saw all there was to see, traveling by foot, wing, and water as he learned more about the world. Shapeshifting to hid his identity, the tengu eventually came across the classical plays of the west, becoming attached to, in particular, the literary character Cyrano de Bergerac, a long nosed adventurer such as he. So enthralled with his story, Bul decided to change his name to Cyrano during his travels, keeping the name to this very day.

Fighting strange spirits, learning about the world, and only occasionally indulging in some primal tengu urges, Cyrano eventually believed he saw everything he needed to see and returned home... right at the start of WWII. Alarmed and shocked at how his clan, who hadn't seen the world like he had, could so easily and quickly return to their warlike ways, Cyrano became disillusioned with his life as a tengu and left home, vowing never to return to Japan out of shame for his kin. For a time, he wandered the earth, trying to recall what his purpose was now that he no longer had a home nor anyone to protect. Drifting aimlessly, the red nosed swordsman eventually, after almost another century of journeying, learned of Starlight Academy's existence as well as the peaceful harmony that others such as himself were able to live there. Deciding to continue his quest to learn more and be a 'guardian yokai', Cy traveled to the Manta Carlos islands to begin a new chapter in what was starting to feel like a very, very, long life.

Additional Information: Has the best nose in the entirety of Starlight Academy.
