Crysta
"Am I to be replaced?"
35 | December 1st | Female | Pansexual Grey-aromantic | Half human, half Kintoc, Cyborg | Underground, unlicensed but trained doctor
Appearance Description:
With the exception of her robotic arms, Crysta looks very much human: her skin is dark in tone, and her eyes are a bright, seemingly unnatural blue. Her almost-white hair color is not her original color, but rather the result of an autoimmune disorder that also causes hair loss when she is under high stress. Her hair can grow back, but it has never reverted to its original color. When it does fall out, Crysta typically wears a black bandana to cover her head.
Standing at 5' 6", she is very thin and has the type of body that never seems to gain weight no matter what she eats. She tends to look sickly. The lines under her eyes are not tattoos, but a natural marking from her Kintoc heritage.
Both of her arms are fully-functional metal prosthetics. Her arms can be removed when needed.
She prefers to wear sleek dresses and long, flowing coats.

Personality Description:
On the surface, Crysta seemed very robotic and emotionless. She speaks bluntly, and struggled to understand the nuances of more emotional individuals. But she also is capable of displaying a certain amount of affection and has a dry sense of humor that can demonstrate to those around her that there is, in fact, some piece of human remaining in her.
While Crysta's emotions are very dulled, she does show affection toward certain individuals more than others. She cannot comprehend anything as deep as love, but she enjoys physical intimacy and spending time with certain individuals. Because she does not feel deep love, however, it is also very easy for her to let go of someone she is affectionate toward should they want to distance themselves from her.
Crysta does feel empathy for others, but does not express herself well. There are also times where she may seem more listless than others, as a result of her autoimmune disorders.
Crysta knows little of her past beyond the fact that she is half Kintoc and half human, and that she originally lived on Toc. She is aware that she underwent a voluntary amnesia, and does not intend to seek out the reason as to why she chose to do so.
—
Crysta's behavior has been a bit different as of late. Ever since the March Virus gave her the Riddle Effect, she has been more bright and energetic. Crysta is now obsessed with trying to maintain the Riddle Effect within her body while ensuring it is no longer contagious to others.

Crysta's behavior has been a bit different as of late. Ever since the March Virus gave her the Riddle Effect, she has been more bright and energetic. Crysta is now obsessed with trying to maintain the Riddle Effect within her body while ensuring it is no longer contagious to others.
She has also recently redeveloped a Morphine addiction. She had been addicted to a similar drug back on her home planet, and is now relying on morphine to function as she tries to figure out the Riddle Effect.
Powers:
Permanent Riddle Effect: Because Crysta is half human and half Kintoc, her synthetic organs do not function as well as they should in a regular Kintoc, and as a result Crysta once experienced frequent health problems. She found that changed when the March Virus hit and she was infected with the Riddle Effect.
Crysta became obsessed with the Riddle Effect, and became determined to find a way to keep herself permanently infected with the virus without the risk of spreading it to others. After spending several months locked up in a lab, she finally mutated the virus in just the way she wanted. Her health has improved immensely now, and she no longer experiences constant physical pain or random organ shut down.
But while the virus has improved her physical health immensely, it has had peculiar effects on her mental state. The Riddle Effect is supposed to help with mental illness, but Crysta is stuck between two ‘illnesses’: Voluntary amnesia which also causes emotional suppression, and Munchausen by Proxy syndrome which the voluntary amnesia is supposed to help suppress.
When the virus lifts her voluntary amnesia, she is capable of feeling a more regular, human-level emotional state but it also brings back her Munchausen by Proxy. When the amnesia clouds Crysta’s mind once more, it suppressed the urges of the Munchausen by Proxy, but it also reverts her back to her more robotic-like state of barely feeling emotions. The Riddle Effect seems unable to 'cure' both of her conditions at once, and instead switches between one state and the other.
As a result, her emotional state has become unbalanced and her behavior has been more erratic.

Species Abilities:
The Kintoc are a human-like race with a few notable differences:
-The Kintoc are immune to illness caused by bacteria and viruses. They can, however, develop autoimmune disorders as Crysta has. The one exception is the March Virus, which infected her with the Riddle Effect.
Crysta's symptoms are similar to that of Lupus, Alopecia Areata, and Diabetes. While her conditions can no longer damage her internal organs thanks to cybernetics, she still feels the symptoms of them and is often sickly and listless.
-The Kintoc are naturally able to surgically remove parts of their body and replace them with cybernetic parts with little to no issue--including their brains. It is considered completely natural, and in fact a necessity, to do such.
In Crysta's case she is mostly organic externally besides her robotic arms, but internally is mostly built of cybernetics.
Crysta's robotic arms are physically stronger than any human's arms and she can remove them as she pleases. She can also store small objects within compartments in her arms. While she may be a bit stronger than a human, she is much weaker than the average Kintoc.
The cybernetics in her mind allow her to access databases from various planets, and she soon discovered that she could mentally access the internet on earth as well.
-Kintoc have longer life spans than humans, with a typical lifespan being around 200 years old. Crysta, however, doubts her life span will be that long.
As expected of any Kintoc, Crysta underwent many surgeries for the cybernetic parts deemed "necessities" by the Kintoc. She was basically lobotomized and had certain areas of her brain replaced with cybernetics, and her body handled this...poorly. Perhaps slightly better than a human body, but worse than a Kintoc body generally would. This led to many health problems, which the Kintoc tried to fix with...more cybernetic parts. That is simply how the Kintoc handled things, and they had not dealt with a Kintoc/human hybrid before.
Crysta was hospitalized and in and out of surgeries for her entire childhood and teenage years. Like the Kintoc, she was not susceptible to infection but developed many auto-immune disorders which she still suffers from to this day. There were many complicated, both physical and mental. Her arms ceased to function and were replaced with metal, cybernetic ones. She nearly lost her legs too, but further work on her brain managed to save them. She was born infertile, so all her reproductive organs were replaced with cybernetics to maintain her hormonal balance. If organs began to fail, they were modified or replaced outright. By the end of it, while she appeared mostly organic on the outside besides her metal arms, she was mostly inorganic internally. Most of her organs had to be replaced, and the few that did remain were modified in some way. Her blood was replaced with a synthetic alternative which bleeds metallic silver. Only about 40% of her original organic brain remained.
At the age of 20, Crysta was finally stable...well, at least physically. She was considered a triumph of Kintoc modern technology. What they did not take into consideration was that, mentally, Crysta was not handling having pieces of her brain removed too terribly well...
She behaved robotic and emotionless--but that was considered normal among Kintoc. Internally, a storm was brewing within Crysta that would not be obvious to others until things really took a turn for the worst.
Crysta pursued becoming a doctor. It came to her naturally--she already knew so much from basically living in a hospital for most of her life, after all. She breezed through her schooling and had the proper brain implants that gave her access to the extensive medical record of the Kintoc.
But Crysta lacked empathy. The Kintoc may promote acting in an emotionless manner, but they are expected to at least have some empathy for others. Crysta's mental instability made for an incredibly dangerous individual who should have never had access to patients in a hospital: no empathy, and a compulsive need for attention and to be perceived as a hero. On Earth, one would call her behavior Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
She intentionally put patients into dangerous situations, just so that she could be the hero and save them. Sometimes these situations failed and the patients died--and that never stopped Crysta.
While Crysta was unstable, she was also highly intelligent and was able to get away with her cruelty for years. Suspicions only started to arise after she began to date a fellow doctor at the same hospital where she worked, and he began to notice something was off about her--and her need to harm patients for attention was becoming more and more obsessive. When he finally confronted her, she tried to choke him to death. That was when Crysta was finally arrested and the truth was revealed.
Crysta was taken to the Kintoc equivalent of a mental health facility. Not surprisingly, the Kintoc believed that mental disorders were simply the result of someone needing less organic brain and more cybernetics.
Crysta was torn. There was actually some small desire within her to be 'fixed', but it also became apparent to her that she was going to become a permanent test subject in that facility. She was the first Kintoc/human hybrid, after all--she turned out dangerous, and the Kintoc would do as much experimenting as they could on her to make sure future hybrids would not turn out as she did.
Crysta agreed to undergo two surgeries: an attempt to give her empathy, and voluntary amnesia. Surprisingly, the additional cybernetics to modify her personality actually worked. She felt empathy, and as such felt absolute horror for the things she had done while a doctor. So, she did seek out the voluntary amnesia to forget what she had once been--but at the same time, she did not want to consent to being a permanent test subject at the mental health institute.
So, Crysta founds a way to have her cake and eat it too. Before undergoing her amnesia, she managed to seek out a worker at the facility with connections. In return for sexual favors (it's easy to spot those rare, sexual Kintoc), he agreed to help Crysta not only escape the facility, but to have her smuggled off the planet.
Crysta wrote herself a note detailing every detail to herself, underwent the voluntary amnesia, and then proceeded to find the note hidden within one of her robotic arms and proceeded with the plan.
That is how Crysta inevitably ended up on the Queen Aurora II crew. They had an agreement--they smuggled her off of Toc and found someone off-planet that could remove the particular cybernetics within her that could be used to track her. In return, she joined the crew as the head medic.
She was true to her word, but it wasn't all that long after when the Queen Aurora II crashed landed on Earth. Once the Captain, Croid, joined another the crew and disbanded his own, Crysta was no longer under any obligation to associate with her fellow crew members. She did develop a certain fondness for Saffron, the Head Chef--but otherwise saw no reason to continue associating with them.
Now it was time to rebuild a new life.

Biography:
Crysta was born Zori Kinri-Arendse to her Kintoc father and human mother on the planet Toc. Her mother was a human ambassador from Earth--one of the first to step foot on Toc. Things did not work out between her parents, and ultimately Crysta was left on Toc with her father while her mother returned to earth. As expected of any Kintoc, Crysta underwent many surgeries for the cybernetic parts deemed "necessities" by the Kintoc. Additional information for Crysta:
-She changed her name to 'Crysta' after she escaped the mental health facility and joined the Queen Aurora II crew because it is similar to her mother's name.
-Crysta currently has no real interests beyond her attraction to others and her medical knowledge, but would like to try and have new interests. Crysta has recently gained an interest in dancing after dancing with Malara at a party, but she is still very stiff and awkward and struggles to copy the fluid movements she sees in others.

General Kintoc Species Information:
-Kintoc have a very low population and very few ever leave the planet of Toc. The Kintoc do not enjoy sex (Crysta is very unusual in this regard), and women are obligated by law to at least have one child in order to maintain their population unless they are physically unable. Most Kintoc women chose to be sterilized after their one obligatory birth.
Men and women will engage in temporary relationships to fulfill the obligatory birth. There is no concept of marriage, and long term relationships are highly unusual.
Kintoc who actually experience an enjoyment of sex do exist, but are highly rare. They tend to be easy to pinpoint, as they also tend to have a wider emotional range than most.
While Kintoc are not entirely emotionless, they are expected to hide their emotions. If one shows too much expression on their face, such as a smile or a frown, Kintoc will cover their mouth to hide it--like covering a cough or a sneeze. It is only seem as polite to cover until it passes.
