Cretaceous Catastrophe

Well, that was a bust.

Being as young as was, Oliver's dependability on his powers was... Dodgy, at best. Mishaps happened all the time, and today seemed to be no exception. After some hefty persuasion and free labor, Oliver had successfully been granted a quick touch to a recently uncovered fossil of a stegosaurus. Another herbivore to add to the collection. Unfortunately though he couldn't properly wrap his brain around the creature's long-extinct one. That was how the link was initiated. For him to transform, he needed to get a clear vision of the dinosaur's primordial mode. But that didn't happen. So here he was.

Oliver had been attempting to the past hour right beside the remote lake in the middle of the forest. Nobody was here, perhaps because it was a slightly misty early morning. Foggy, yet not sticky hot/cold. It felt refreshing to be out here. Even more so now that he had called it quits on an unfamiliar prehistoric reptile and settled for another one- his classic cold blooded T-Rex.

It helped him metaphorically warm up for his powers anyway. It was the one most familiar, the one that he had the most control over. Except... For that one time. But over and over again he'd remind himself of Anh Sang's words. He'd always be Oliver. No matter what. So now the game plan was to transition from T. rex to one of his other forms, then to the new one, and finally back to his meager human self. Made sense. But doubt would overtake his conscience, it seemed.

The building-tall terrible lizard padded towards the water's brim. Each hefty step of its world-shattering feet crumbling the gravel of the shore. Leaning over the edge, the dinosaur got a good look of itself through the reflection. Terrifying. As always. Come on Oliver... Don't give up hope yet... The thought ran through his borrowed skull, as a deep sigh came from his nostrils. He knew this had to be gotten out of the way. Why can't you cooperate with me, body? A soft grown came through banana-sized teeth. Sounding more melodramatic than malicious. Slowly Oliver stepped into the water. A visible shiver coming from him as the water was cold. A shame, since his body could adapt to it. He waddled in stiffly, grumbling for a few minutes before loosening up a bit. There. Wasn't so bad, was it?

With that out of the way he stopped down, pressing his face against the water to get a drink before looking back up. He wanted to wipe off the excess with his hands but... Oh yeah. No arms. Next solution. Oliver proceeded to shake his head with all his might to get it off. Inches above the water surface. It worked, but with the side effect that he was now dizzy. It took him a bit for his sight to refocus. But it did come back. Only for his eyes to lock right onto a small, black river snake. And it was nearing him quickly.

S-SNAKE!!!

Oliver roared enough to shake the trees around him. Trying to side step it quickly while running backwards. Of course, Oli seemed to forget that he was no human boy. So when he misstepped, he didn't stumble. He fell- hard.

In mere moment's the giant lizard found itself smacked against the bottom of the river shore. Halfway submerged in water. On his back. And he couldn't get up. His legs failed and his arms waved. This was embarrassing.
Thank goodness no one was around to see this trainwreck. Because otherwise they just may find it good entertainment.​
