Event Private Finished Conflict of Interest

Markers strewn on the floor, in loosely arranged piles grouped by color. Big sheets of paper and cardboard lay spread out over the floor in Andrasta's room, and on her bed and desk, in various stages of becoming student council posters and election signs. Two red-headed children were hard at work in here.

Andrasta and Orsick had been hanging out after school more. With student council elections ramping up, and both of them participating, it seemed like a good time to hang out together and make posters.

While she was working, an idea popped into Andrasta's mind. "Orsick," she said, "Do you think you can endorse my campaign? I feel like that might help me win. With you being the former president and all."

Orsick sort of cringed when the question came up. He knew in his gut it was coming. He wasn't really keen on endorsing anyone, even though he wanted to. "I want to but I can't. It would kinda be a conflict of interest if I just picked you to endorse."

He growled a little, punctuating his discomfort more with a small, relatively harmless wave of shadow energy from his mouth. "Honestly though I think you have a huge shot at winning without me though. You're more on the student body's level than I am if you think about it."

It felt nice, at least, hearing him say she had a huge shot at winning. At the very least, that softened her disappointment. But it didn't eliminate it.

She had been working on a poster laid out over her bed. Now she was turning around to face Orsick, sitting up on that bed, thinking about how to say this. "Thanks, but... what do you mean, it would be a conflict of interest? Like would I end up in the pocket of Big Dragon?" Not even Andrasta knew what that would mean, unless it involved being in a literal giant dragon's pocket. And jokes aside, that didn't sound so horrible.

"I guess, it just feels like a lot of people running against each other are friends to some extent. It feels wrong to just pick one of you over everyone else. Plus, it's up to everyone else to decide who they want. The more I talk this out the dumber it sounds," he thought about it some more.

"I guess it's this whole mess I got myself into with Ferret too. I don't wanna go back on my word, but she's also making it really difficult. She's also gunning for president. And I'm gonna be honest, she has like no clue about anything at all."

He flopped back, staring up at the ceiling.

"I basically told her she needs to figure a platform and well the regular campaign stuff. And also why she's even in it to begin with. Like we have our reasons but... it's so frustrating, and I wanna scream."

"Then let's go outside and scream later. It'll be fun. All my neighbors do that when it's a full moon out, so nobody can get mad at us."

This neighborhood, situated out in the woods with a lot of well-spaced-out houses, was primarily full of werewolves.

"I was actually gonna ask you what Ferret's deal is though. But I guess if she hasn't even figured it out yet..." She shrugged. This was screwy.

"Yeah, I... could definitely use some stress release. At least we're basically in the woods so we can just go all out."

This really was a perk of having friends who were adopted by werewolves.

"I have no idea what her plan is. I feel like she kinda just hopped in because it sounded cool. Which is... kinda bad."

A lot of people around here had better than human hearing, too, which is why she got a few noise complaints against her when she blew things up on the regular. But they also have really strong lungs and they like going outside and yelling on school nights. Once she put it to them that way, the complaining dried up - though it helped that she also held back a little more, and told them that she needed to destroy things every once in a while.

"Yeah. I hope going through all this doesn't hurt her more though. She's going through a pretty bad time already... but if she wins, being an illiterate student council member has gotta suck..."

The more she thought about it, the more worried she got about Ferret. She kinda liked that kid, or maybe related to her.

"Seriously... that's kinda why I'm so hesitant to endorse anyone she like... doesn't get it? I wanna help her at least get her campaign off the ground. But she seems to think I'm going to just endorse her too."

He wanted to be helpful, he really did. "I mean... I'm not being unreasonable am I?"

Orsick was in kind of a dilemma, Andrasta supposed. "No, you're fine. Why don't we just... try to talk her out of the whole campaign thing. Help her realize that it'd just make her miserable if she won. And then when she drops out, maybe we can endorse each other?"

Since it mostly just sounded like it was Ferret that was Orsick's main problem. If they could take care of that, there shouldn't be any problems anymore. Right?

"That also feels kinda... shitty, and I don't think we really can," he sighed, formed a glob of darkness, and began tossing it around in his hand.

"Part of me is kinda like, just do everything you can to win. Within the rules of course. It might be better to let her try and lose too, you know?"
