Common Magical Items

Magical items are a common sight around Manta Carlos, but some items are so common that they're mass produced. These items can be added to your character for free if your character meets certain criteria.

To add one to an existing character, simply copy and paste it onto your character sheet and use the 'Post an Update' option to let us know what you've added. To add one to a new character, just include it from the start!

If you'd like to make a variant of an existing Common Magical Item, you can! Just keep in mind that custom versions would be much more expensive in-character, even if the base item is free.

All magical items should go in the active abilities section of your Character Sheet, whether common or not.

Some items and enchantments are not just common, but standard. All clothes can be taken to a tailor and charmed to shapeshift with the wearer for free. Similarly, all shapeshifters are provided with shifter tags as a default, and are assumed to have (and be wearing them) unless stated otherwise.

Nullification Bracelet: This nullification bracelet naturally disables all of a characters active abilities, and any outwardly projecting passive abilities (such as auras). This bracelet can be put on and taken off at will.
Available for free if: Your character has an ability which would actively harm those around you.

Enforced Nullification Bracelet: This nullification bracelet naturally disables all of a characters active abilities, and any outwardly projecting passive abilities (such as auras). This type of bracelet is provided for those who must wear a mandatory bracelet, either as part of parole or any other reason. This type of bracelet cannot be removed by the wearer.
Available for free if: Your character is required to wear one by court order or otherwise.

Simple Language Charm: This is the standard language charm provided to most characters. It translates a characters mother tongue into English, and allows them to hear English as their mother tongue.

Available for free if: Your character does not speak English and requires translation. Only one charm is provided per character.

Human Shape Charm: While wearing this charm, the character appears human. They lose access to any abilities they had as a result of any non-human physical characteristics of their original body. For example, a character who uses wings to fly will be unable to fly while using a human shape charm. Characters wearing this charm always have a single set human form, which resembles their non-human form.
Available for free if: Your character could not reasonably function on the island without it.

Human Size Charm: While wearing this charm, the character takes on a normal human body size. Giant characters shrink, and tiny characters grow, but they all end up in the normal human range.
Available for free if: Your character could not reasonably function on the island without it.

Sex Swap Charm: While wearing this charm, the characters sex is swapped. They still look like themselves, and have a consistent other form that they'll take when wearing the charm. As a safety precaution, this charm also automatically works as birth control for the one wearing it. The sex swap charm does not change who a character is attracted to, or how they act.
Available for free if: This item is freely and discreetly provided, by request, at many clinics and counseling offices.

Aura Warning Bracelet: While not actually magical, Manta Carlos distributes customized bracelets for those with auras. Depending on the shape and color, people can tell at a glance the approximate range and nature of the aura of the wearer.
Available for free if: This item is always free.
Free Out-of-Character if: This item is always free.
Special Note: Aura Warning Bracelets should be noted in the 'appearance', 'additional info', and 'miniprofile' sections of the character sheet. Unlike other common magical items, they should not be placed in the active ability section.
