What Vinvidir was saying made sense. It was the original plan of Sela's. Act good, learn the rules of being an adult, retake the test, then be released.

There were just a few key problems. Patterns are very difficult to figure out. No matter how grounded Sela forced themself to be in reality, decoding patterns to manipulate them was not their thing. It was Jao's thing. Myst, if it involved the patterns of socializing and language.

That and more was what Sela wanted to say. If they didn't mind another argument. They did, so they kept those thoughts to themself, smiled, and nodded.

"The future doesn't exist for me, but I understand. Pretend. I want to stay here a while longer first. I want to... make a plan. And. I think being is better than pretending. There are people inside me. I can use them. They can be me."

"Very well. But I encourage you to return soon. It'll be dark before you know it, and there's no telling what may lurk in these woods." Vindivir sighed in acquiescence. He had a vague feeling something was off. A feeling that only 20,000 years of life experience could grant. But, he made no indication of his feelings, only hoping that he'd managed to get through to the little universe whose company he'd come to enjoy.

"I will take my leave then." said the dragon, standing from his stump and tossing his scabbard back over his shoulder.

Sela almost wanted to scream. "I blend in with the night. I hunt best at night," they explained, as simply as they could. "I've been here long enough to know what lurks here." They would say none of the monsters have been able to hurt them, and Sela could simply absorb them, but they could imagine the response they would get.

"Goodbye, Vindivir. I'll be fine without the school. I'll be happy." With that, they flew away from the dragon. And away. And away. Vinvidir might change his mind at any time. It was important they were too far to catch and too well-hidden if that happened.
