Breken Arbor is a member of a very vague colony of sentient, antropomorphic tree-like beings that have adapted to live in marshes. Being neither plant nor animal, his kind share traits of both, though our mossy boy leans more towards the plant side.
His 'skin' (and most of his body, really) is similar in texture and composition to tree bark; more specifically, that of a black ash tree. But his skin isn't perfect- Patches of it is covered in different types of mosses, lichens, and even a few small ferns.
Atop his head, much resembling human hair, is a patch of leaves. Depending on what time of year it is, they'll vary in colour- He'll even go bald in the winter, as with most trees.
That isn't where his resemblance to a tree stops. He's pretty massive for his age- Well over six feet on a good day, although his height can vary depending on whether you count his antlers and the canopy of leaves atop his head.
And that's about where most of his appearance goes, though there are a few notable animal traits here in there. As previously mentioned, he does have antlers on his head- They're not particularly big, but they're distinguishable from branches due to their bone-like texture. Much like the rest of his body, they do have clumps of moss hanging from there, though he does otherwise take great care of them.
His face also has a few noteworthy traits, mainly the pair of reptilian eyes, and the jagged row of alligator teeth. They stand off from his otherwise very unintimidating appearance, and it's agreed to be his most striking features.
Personality:
If you would have to establish a base line for Breken's personality, it'd be calmness. No matter the situation, he's almost always calm- And even when he's angry, it's more of a simmering anger, than anything. Don't expect any violent emotions from this guy.
So, from that, where to begin? Breken is usually a mellow, uninterested guy, who is very rarely phased by anything. He never tries to impose himself too much on anyone, and he doesn't let first impressions dictate his opinion on anything. Instead, he's very careful with who he associates with, giving acquaintances a disconnected sort of amiableness that is very apparent, but never insulting. Breken just prefers to have a group of people he knows he can trust and hang out with, and slowly open it up from there. As a result, he's indifferent to parties or large social events, and he can usually be described as being pretty chill (or as chill as an angsty teenager can be, anyways). Best to fend for yourself, right?
When he's around people he likes, the changes in his personality can be pretty subtle at best. For starters, he's more willing to stand up for them or help them out, and he doesn't have qualms with throwing away common sense in order to go with their shenanigans. This, when paired with a more outgoing person, often results in Breken being dragged along in an adventure he doesn't feel completely comfortable with, which can be tasking on the poor mossy boy. But overall, if you're going to class and you need him to carry all your books, go for it. He won't say no, if he's your friend. He likes satisfying his friends.

Being basically the genetic milkshake of dozens of animals and plants, Breken has quite a few abilities that set him aside from your student. Asides from being bipedal, sentient, and sophisticated enough to integrate into human society (which is already a massive achievement for an ash tree), Breken has the following species specific abilities:
-Disease Immunity: His kind can't get sick- At least, not with common diseases. This makes him completely resistant to bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Some organisms still grow on him, but none of them have any ill effect on him. A good example is the moss growing off his skin.
-Poison Resistance: His body has a natural resistance to toxins that would kill most other creatures. Unlike diseases, he isn't completely immune to them- But it takes specially crafted poisons to kill him, and usually in a heftier concentration.
-Photosynthesis: Being part tree, Breken can produce most of his energy off sunlight and just a few nutrients. However, this said, his heightened metabolism means he can't survive off spreading his roots and sunlight alone- Much like a carniverous plant, he gains many nutrients by 'eating' meat every once in a while. He hardly eats as much as a regular person, though.
-Alligator teeth: Drawing from his alligator hertiance, Breken has two rows of sharp alligator teeth where anyone else would have normal teeth. This makes eating meat a lot easier- However, this also implies he's a carnivore. He can't (or, at least, is unwilling) to eat plants.

Ranging from the mysterious, mythical swamps of upper Florida, Breken had always lived a peaceful, quiet life. His parents were trappers (more or less), and his tribe (tribe? sort of) had always a nomadic lifestyle, slowly moving from swamp, to bog, to river, to forest, to 'soon-to-be-terrified-unsuspecting-town', making a life for themselves and meeting the occasional sorcerer or supernatural entity who would be unphased at the concept of a walking, talking tree. As a result of this, Breken never had too many belongings. For a part of his life, he lived in a mobile home his family had acquired second hand from a bankrupt skin-changer, and there he grew up, just a step above from the childhood his parents had.
Eventually, around the time his family was wandering Louisiana, homeschooling just couldn't cut it. His parents had taught him everything they knew, and in hopes to send him to a better life, they contacted many sorcerers and skinchangers. In the end, his best option ended up being Starlight academy- With a scholarship and a goodbye from his family, Breken was sent on a boat over to Manta Carlos, ready to start the next chapter of his life.
