Yuuki was awake, like they had been for most of the night. The image of the ghost wouldn’t leave their mind whenever they closed their eyes. Some make-up was covering the faint bags under their eyes; they could feel their head protesting for the lack of sleep, the light headache wouldn’t leave them.

They weren’t on their best condition today, but they had committed to going to the Academy’s infirmary with a new supply of medicinal herbs, grown and gathered by them, and also help with some practical lessons for the medicine students.

Lab coat and everything, the kirin was carefully carrying a few boxes full of all they were supposed to deliver. Yuuki had stacked way too many of them, they had thought two trips weren’t really necessary, and that made their vision pretty bad while walking down the halls. They were doing their best at avoiding students and staff members, but they eventually ran into someone. Yuuki whined as a couple of boxes on top slid to one side.

S-Sorry” they said, alarmed, trying to save their precious plants from falling to the floor.

As much as he'd left the Kirin with a sleepless night, Makara was unbothered. He remembered nothing of the night before. Random hours with no memory were not unusual, and it didn't raise even the tiniest red flag in his head that he couldn't remember anything that happened after 10PM. It just happened - sometimes he stopped existing, and it had never really been a big deal. The only concern about it he'd ever had was the concern that someone (probably Nia) would call on him and he wouldn't be there.

Makara was solid during the day, so when he turned the corner and ran right into someone, he actually ran into them. No seamless gliding through them. Nope, right into the side and then some of them were falling, and Makara was scrambling to grab them.

In the end, he didn't have to grab them at all - or at least not fully hold onto them. He simply braced the one side, sliding it back slightly to make the pile stable again.

"I apologize, I didn't see you." No point on going much beyond that. Neither of them was at fault - no one was to blame. "I don't think anything fell."

Oh, no, no” the kirin started to apologize yet again “It’s not your fault, I should’ve looked whe–“ they continued, tilting their head to the side to try and see who they had ran into.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the other man was sort of helping them keep the boxes in place, Yuuki was sure they would have dropped them. They stood still, back straight and kirin ears down. No… he couldn’t be… right? It wasn’t like they had payed much attention to the figure they had witnessed the night before, at least not before said figure blinked through bloody phases of his life.

Don’t look scared, don’t look scared, don’t look scared. Well, it was kind of late for that; they probably looked incredibly rude in the stranger’s eyes right now. Yuuki tried really hard to put a soft smile on their face, an attempt at not making him uncomfortable with the look they had given him.

I– oh– I’m so sorry…” was all they could mumble as they lifted the boxes again without any help and took a step back; personal space was important “I thought I had seen you before” the kirin said to excuse themselves “Have I?

Well, better ask him rather than having that doubt on the back of their mind for the rest of the week. Silly kirin.

Makara was used to odd looks, but not particularly used to out and out staring. He was used to glances out of the corner of his eye. To people not so discretely wondering why he was so tiny. But Makara was fairly good at blending in, at being so small and quiet that people didn't even realize he was there. So outright staring like that... well, it made him suddenly nervous.

"I... no. I don't think we've met?" He gave the man (or was it a man? It was hard to tell when dealing with non-humans, but the height was probably his best indicator) another look. Nothing was familiar - he remembered nothing of the previous night's events, and so had never encountered him before. "You might have seen me around the school if you're here often? I teach." Or he was supposed to teach, only no one ever took his class, so really he spent most of his time handling his duties as a dorm parent. He spent enough time around the school that anyone who was paying attention might recognize him, but he didn't truly know a lot of people.

That said, if he thought he recognized him... did that mean there was another Cambodian on the island? As far as he knew it was just him and Chhet Heng. He supposed it could just be someone similar, but Cambodians were fairly distinct as far as features went.
