Alcohol makes everything better

The sea was unusually quiet today. Maybe in honour of the town's festivities, or perhaps in their own celebration, or maybe she had enough focus to not let her powers overwhelm her control. Whatever it was, Versailles appreciated the silence. Falling unconscious where she'd likely end up falling in the water was not exactly a pleasant thought.

Mia sat on the other side of a cooler, drink in hand. They'd brought more than plenty of alcohols with them to enjoy the afternoon before the fireworks without getting bombarded with people. At the moment, Versailles was sipping at a combination of vodka and cream, gazing out over the water.

"This is supposed to be my second founder's day. I've never actually been to the festivities. Too many people, I'd probably get trampled."

Victor awkwardly clambered over to the ladies with the cooler, but still keeping a comfortable distance. Sure, he really needed to make more friends on the island since he has few all around. Yet, Victor was suspicious of how odd it would be for a man like himself to be hanging out with college ladies, but he did honestly look quite younger than they did.

The fox lady seemed the most intimidating with the ears and tails that extended from the normal frame of a human being. Yet, he kept a close eye on the other one as well. He read online of how to greet strangers, even did it once himself, so he supposed that pulling it off a second time wouldn't be so hard.

Victor hadn't realized he was just standing there for at least a solid minute just sort of pumping himself up, and quickly snapped back into reality before boldly but awkwardly approaching the pair of ladies.

"Hey there, name's Vi-" was all he could get out before he clumsily tripped.

Lucky, he avoided the cooler entirely and simply went head first towards the water line. This was it, he had it in his head, they'd kill him dead for sure for being so awkward and clumsy. This is where it all ends.

Mia was casually laying on the ground beside Versa, her red hair sprawled around her as she sipped at a wine cooler. It was nice—just having drinks on the pier with her new roommate. She liked spending time with Versa—even though it occasionally meant being around certain people she couldn’t stand; but not today. Today it was just the two girls, chilling on the pier waiting to see some fireworks.

“I’ll just have protect you then,” Mia said with a grin as she rolled onto her stomach. She had been watching the sky for a while, but turned her attention to the water that rolled before them. It was nice going to a quiet place instead of where everyone else was, for once.

“Hey Versa, you ever gone skinny dipping before?” Mia suddenly asked with a mischievous grin on her face. The quiet sea reminded her of times when she had done it. It was just so rare to find a deserted body of water where one could just jump in with no worries.

But wow, Mia’s timing could not have been more awkward for that question. Someone behind them had suddenly started introducing themselves, but when Mia turned her head she realized the man was about to fall into the water.

“Oh shi-!” Mia yelped as she quickly bounced up and just managed to grab the back of Victor’s shirt before he went over the pier.

“Versa! A little help please?!”

Versailles nearly choked on her drink in response to her roommates sudden question.

"Skinny dipping? Really Mia? God n-"

Versailles yelped as the man nearly fell past her, stunned at the sudden event. It took her a moment to realize it was only Mia and the strength of his shirt holding him up, then she rushed to stand and push him back. Once the man was balanced on his own feet agian, the fox girl dropped to her knees with a heavy sigh.

"Now this is why alcohol and high places don't mix."

Victor pushed the floof that was his hair from his eyes, and it appeared too that the mess seemed to obscure his eyesight quite well. He began stammering apologies left and right - a whirlwind of nervous replies. After awhile he began to calm down and focus his thoughts into something that wasn't gobble-di-gook coming from him.

"I apologize for my misconduct, though I must say I'm far from intoxicated." He ever so lightly spoke.

His left arm, and subsequently his bandaging upon it, reminded him what a hassle it would have been had the two women not saved him from a watery free fall. He nervously chuckled to the pair before properly seeking redemption.

"I thank you both for saving me from the fall - oh, but I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Victor." He meekly spoke, extending a nervous hand in hopes of stoking some sort of friendship.

Once she was sure Victor wasn’t going to go off the pier, Mia let go of his shirt with a sigh of relief. She returned to sitting down at her spot besides Versa.

“Haha…you don’t even have alcohol as an excuse then,” Mia said with a giggle as she reached for her half of a wine cooler and took a sip. She didn’t intend to be mean, but it was kind of funny that the one person on the pier who hadn’t been drinking was the one to nearly go over.

“I’m Mia, and she’s Versailles,” Mia said as she gestured to herself and her companion, before reaching up to give his hand a quick, confident shake.

“If you’re looking for a place to view the fireworks later, I’d say right here is pretty good. Not too crowded and we’ve got booze,” she said with a mischievous grin.

Versailles omitted a handshake in favour of a half hearted salute. She eyed the man curiously, and patted the wood beside her.

"Sit. We don't want you falling over agian, and I can't swim so no one will rescue you if you do."

Versailles lounged out across the wood, removing her shoes to dangle her feet above the waves.

"If you want a drink, go ahead and grab one. We brought plenty. Dunno how well you handle it, but at least if you're drinking something you'll be less inclined to wander."
