On the far southeastern side of the island sits the Acinaces Arena. After heavy renovations this historic arena stands as a throwback to a bygone era of the island's history. The arena itself looks much like an ancient Roman amphitheater recreated for the modern day. The arena, made primarily of stone, appears to be open to the elements but once inside spectators and fighters will find the arena's climate permanently pleasant. Rain seems to avoid the arena entirely and slides effortlessly off an invisible ceiling, leaving the arena open to the sky.
The tiered seating is more comfortable than the arena's historical counterparts, but for the most part the arena itself lacks the amenities of a major stadium. Depending on the event there are always at least one or two food vendors but what's actually on offer tends to vary.
Acinaces Arena is available for a variety of events, but fights (commonly called 'blood sports') are by far the most common. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday a new show runs, allowing spectators to view anywhere between three and five fights including competitors of varied skill levels, power sets and species. The fight area of the arena is about the size of a football field, and the arena itself is heavily enchanted to allow for damage to be quickly and easily repaired. Between the center area and the seating lies an invisible barrier, claimed to be the the most powerful on Manta Carlos. Arena owners have boasted that the barrier can withstand anything, and they once demonstrated this by inviting occupants of Manta Carlos to test themselves against the barrier. No one managed to make it through, allowing the arena to receive the island's blessing.
Fights in the arena can also be privately handled during off hours. Fights are either held to the death or to surrender, with specific rules for each. Generally speaking only those over the age of eighteen are allowed to fight in the arena. Any gladiators participating in the blood sports run by the arena must be over the age of eighteen. For underage competitors in private matches, parental permission must be supplied (dorm parents will not provide it) and there must be a guarantee that the fighter will be able to recover (either regeneration or proof of funds for magical healing). Deathmatches for those under the age of eighteen require a confirmation that the fighters will be able to respawn in order to avoid liability.
Private matches can be fought at no cost as long as the fighters are willing to allow the fight to be viewed by the public. Truly private matches that aren't open to spectators require a fee to be paid, with the cost increasing based on the day of the week and time of the fight.
