Cheeto's eyes locked onto Chloe's and she gave a small smile. "Hey, wanna go get some ice cream? My treat?" Her voice sounded a bit more upbeat, but still had that hint of overtly trying to comfort someone in it. She wanted to make sure Chloe was okay, but deep down she wanted to show Dorito that Chloe was okay, that she could be trusted. There wasn't any funny business, nothing going on between them, not that such a thing was Dorito's business if it was.

"Lets just put all this behind us okay? Get something sweet?" She reached her hands out to Chloe, as though offering to help her up. She gave her friend the warmest smile one could muster after this situation, something in her worrying that all this could cost her Chloe's friendship. Her nervousness showed through despite her best efforts to hide it.

Chloe didn’t have to think about that question for very long. “I can’t turn down free ice cream.” The main reason she would be coming along, of course, was to hang out with Cheeto. But it was worth acknowledging how little Chloe had to her name. As generous as her stipend was for a cosmic orphan, she was still a cosmic orphan.

She took Cheeto’s hands and stood up. For the next few minutes, she searched for her scarf, her jacket, a hat. The conversation turned briefly to summer jobs and Chloe’s plans to secure one. It might have moved on from there, or perhaps it might not have. Details stopped being important – it was the talking itself that mattered. Their talking filled them and surrounded them, it sustained them and kept them warm, like hands holding one another in the winter air.
