Manta Carlos, an island of wonders, especially for the newly arrived. James had spent so many days exploring it, all the amazing things he had, so he'd offered to show a new arrival around.

So here he was, a calm smile on his face as he pointed out the many magic shops, "you can buy pretty much any magic item or potion you can think of." There weren't many people he could get this comfortable with.

As they passed a vendor he bought them each a drink, the liquid had a minor enchant and changed colors every so often, with each color being a different. He chuckled and waited for her to discover this.

"The museum I work at is a bit further down, I'll give you a tour once we get there," he had grown to love the magic museum and would happily show it to her.

Anna was easily fascinated with every place that James pointed out to her. Each turn of the corner provided new wonders to behold. A magic shop? At first, she imagined something more human, like those shops you go to buy things that do neat little magic tricks. But no, this was a straight-up magic potions and swords and wands kind of place. Real magic.

This was so great. She'd learned so much about herself since they'd first met, and he'd showed her around the school. Anna marveled at the color-changing drink. So cool! She almost didn't want to drink it, but it tasted like a delicious rainbow, so she couldn't resist.

"I've learned so much since we last hung out, James," she told him as they walked. "I learned that I'm a siren! Totally explains why you wandered in on my piano playing - apparently any music I make puts this weird spell-like effect on other people, they get all...entranced. That's what Miss Vanessa told me, anyways. Oh! And I have a new job, I'm going to be singing at this fancy club that Miss Vanessa owns. And I met this really cool guy named Nix. And this cybernetic girl named Sarah, she helped me discover my powers! I'm not sure if it's part of being a siren or not, but I can give my emotions to other people. It's amazing. I've been practicing a lot." So much had happened within only a few days' time. Anna sure had a lot of excitement going on in her life. She was slowly becoming happier with her decision to come here.

He smiled and chuckled as she told him everything that's happened to her, "I'm happy your settling so well, this island has a lot to offer, you'll do great."

James finished his drink, focusing the empty cup vanished in a cloud of darkness and reappeared in a trashcan besides them. "I spent days exploring this place with my friends Nyota and Klef, I'll have to introduce you to them."

The Shadow remained silent, just as enthralled by everything as Anna was. He stopped in front of a charm stand, they had what looked like clips that go on clothing. "These are temperature charms, they had heat ones for winter, not they have frost ones for summer," he quickly bought one and offered it to her, "should help keep you cool on hot days, these ones won't last forever though."

"Basically everything you've read about in legends and fantasy books are real in one way or another," they passed a magic shop selling spell books. "Don't try any spells unless you're learning them from a teacher though," he said chuckling.

Anna wasn't sure how to feel about all the things he was buying for her. Money was...a funny thing, with her, but she'd be making some soon, so maybe she could repay him with gifts of her own. Besides, they weren't all that expensive. She examined the charm he offered to her and smiled, "Cool. Literally."

"It's still kind of like...a huge culture shock for me," she laughed. "I'm learning new things every day. Still, I think...that I'm starting to like this place." She was making good friends, and seeing really neat places, and becoming more attached to the island with each passing day. She still missed her brothers, but James was sort of filling that void. He felt like a younger brother to her, but a friend nonetheless.

"Yea it grows on you," he smiled brightly, in truth James had been struggling lately, his built up negative emotions had been bleeding out, but he was enjoying himself. "Just wait until you start learning about magic in class, I never went to school before I came here, so the whole thing was a surprise."

They passed a few more magic shops, he felt the familiar tingling go through his left hand, the old nerve damage was at it again. He flexed the hand a few times trying to get it feeling normal again.

"So are you taking power classes yet?" he asked curiously, they could see the museum ahead. "I remember first learning how to control my shadow magic," he chuckled, "I sorta, teleported into a few walls at first."

They came to the entrance to the museum, "now, you'll see a lot of cool, but also weird stuff, like some of the paintings are enchanted to move or change color, it's normal... well normal for here."

Anna shook her head, "Not yet, but I'm looking into some. I've started practicing on my own, though. Sarah has agreed to let me practice on her in exchange for a home-cooked meal and letting her conduct some research on my powers, so that should be fun. I'm looking forward to it."

She looked up at the big building as they approached it and grinned at his description, sticking her thumbs into the pockets of her jean shorts. "I'll try not to touch anything," she promised with a light laugh. "Though if there are instruments in there, you might have to hold me back. I can't help myself around those kinds of things." She hoped there were instruments.

Laughing he opened the door for her, "I'll try, you're gonna love this." The Shadow sort of snorted, "this girl is gonna get you fired," James of course was happy no one else could here it talk.

As they entered, a stone statue on the left seemed to look toward them for a second, it wasn't sentient but had an enchantment. James chuckled, "like I said, weird stuff."

He lead her deeper into the museum, pointing out all the weird and magical exhibits. "There always getting new things, this place is always changing." They passed some paintings that were magically changing overtime.

They came across a flute in a glass case, "this was apparently used by a mage a long time ago to summon the undead." He looked to her, "let's try and not summon a zombie army, shall we?" he said jokingly. He honestly didn't joke with many people, but he was comfortable around her.

Anna kept her hands firmly planted in the pockets of her shorts as James showed her around. It was hard for her to not touch anything, but she managed. Her dark eyes sparkled with delight as he pointed out the flute to her.

"I'll try not to," she grinned, leaning over the glass to admire the instrument. "It's beautiful." Most other people would have probably chosen the word 'old'. She found it to be rather fascinating, the things that these ancient artifacts could do.

"What's your favorite part of the museum?" she asked as they strolled casually down a hallway lined with paintings that moved and changed colors. It was like something out of Harry Potter. Except it was real.

He couldn't help but grin a bit, he was enjoying showing her around. She was so friendly, so upbeat. "Yea a lot of the artifacts are really pretty," he said stepping beside her to look at the flute.

James looked to her, still grinning a bit, "you're the first person I've ever given a tour." He had gotten a few friends sense moving here, but he hadn't brought any here. "Hope I'm not too boring."

The young man tilted his head in thought, "I'll show you." With that he lead her into a second area, it was filled with carvings and tablets, all made of different materials, written with different languages, some glowed. "These tablets speak of myths and legends, there not even sure who made some of them," stepping up to a small touch screen he pushed a few things and it started reading off the translation.

"I like coming here, after...," he cleared his throat, no one knew about his panic attacks or nightmares, listening to the legends helped him. "A-anyways, I come here and listen."

Anna followed along down the hall to the large room filled with tablets. She craned her neck back to look all the way up to the high ceiling, then scanned the entire room. "Cool," she said, enjoying how her words echoed in this chamber-like room. Oh man, if she sang in here? That would sound amazing. Anna loved places like this, where the acoustics were on point.

She couldn't help but be curious about what he'd stopped himself from saying. "After...what?" she pried, raising her eyebrows at him. It didn't seem like something he wanted to talk about, but Anna had trouble with just letting things like this go.
