A Distraction

Valaina walked into the library. She had never bene to the library at the academy yet, and thought since she had some time on her hands it would be the perfect time to take a look.

The library was dead quiet. She scanned the room, and noticed a lot of students studying or reading at a table by themselves or in groups. She also noticed a few students with there heads on there desk taking a quick nap. Perfect place to sleep, Valaina thought, It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. She walked as quietly as she could glancing left to right to see if she could spot someone she knew.

Unfortunately, she couldn't see anyone who looked familiar, so she decided to leave. Afterall, she didn't come for research or studying, she would find something else to do. As she turned to leave, the heel of her shoe detatched itself from her shoe and sent her flailing backwards right into the cart of returned books. This caused a loud, crashing sound bringing the attention of all the students and teachers in the library to Valaina who was now sprawled out on her back on the floor of the library.

At first she just laid there. On her back, confused at what just happened. She sat up and felt her face go beat red. She hoped no one saw what just happened.

Judas had been lounging about in the library, fascinated by all the many books and authors here that he couldn't find at a normal library.
The complete works of Zola? By God!
Then he noticed the loud crash, startling from his reading, and slowly scratched his head, creeping out from within a shelf of books and noticing a young girl sitting on her behind next to an overturned book cart.
Piecing together what had happened, he sighed, looking worried for a second as he flicked his wrists, letting the books on the ground float back into the cart.
Then he faced the girl, leaning over and offering his hand.
"I do hope you aren't hurt, comrade. What a dreadful noise."

Valaina look up to see a guy leaning over her with his hand extended. She grabbed his hand and stood up.

"Thank you," she said, her face feeling really hot, "I hit my head, but I think I'll be fine." Her hand went up to the back of her head and she could feel a very distinct bump.

She looked around the library. Thankfully everyone had gone back to whatever they were doing, and the attention was no longer on her. She turned to the guy who had helped her. He looked about her age, only a bit taller.

"Thanks again," she said, "I'm so embarrased, I don't even know how that happened."

Judas gave her his charming grin.
"Of course, of course miss. I understand. We can all be clumsy at times, perhaps there was something on your mind and you weren't paying attention. Happens to the best of us. Are you sure you don't need me to escort you to the nurse's office?"

Valaina couldn't help but smile. This guy was so sweet.
"No, I'm sure I'll be fine. Thank you," she said. She began to walk towards the door, this time being aware of where all the carts of books were and being extra cautious not to run into anything. Suddenly she turned around.
"By the way, my name is Valaina. What's yours?"

Judas' smile widened, a charismatic, dazzling gesture, although his eyes seemed hollow and tired.
Nodding with a flourish, he held out his hand once more, except this time in a simply friendly gesture.
"Nice to meet you indeed Valaina. The name is Judas Anderson."

Valaina shook his hand. "Nice to meet you Judas. I guess since I'm here I may as well see what kind of books they have to offer. I use to love to read, but ever since I got here I haven't had the chance."

She made her way over the the shelves of books. Reading over the titles one by one. She came across one book that sparked her interest, The Art of Transformation but decided against it. She walked along the next shelf of books with no luck of finding something. She went back over to the first shelf and picked up the book. She flipped through the pages still deciding if she should check it out.
