When I asked about the name of his establishment, Proprietor Julian Antoinette simply smiled and said, “I’ve always felt for Emperor Hadrian who fell in love with the beauty of his boy lover so much he deified him after his death. Emperor Hadrian saw something there: A special quality, a unique spark that set him above the rest. I find that spark in so many things, and I wish for everyone to see and appreciate it in its most wonderful forms like I do. I wish for everyone to see what Emperor Hadrian saw.”

Antoinette’s Antinous Art Gallery and Theater is located at the furthest, quietest part of the city near the Residential Area, right in front of the Fountain of the Holy Mother of Tildes. They are two grand, adjacent white buildings, with an expansive, perfectly mowed lot with a lovely garden growing flower bushes of various colors. It’s a rich, harmonious sea of rich colors during Spring, and a graveyard of wilted trees and bushes at Winter.

Art Gallery

Antinous’ Art Gallery is a large, four story building with a mix of modern and classic architectural designs. There were tasteful arcs and pillars, but the entirety of the building and the overall structure was very unique and angular.

The inside of the art gallery is a lot simple. Antoinette has expressed his old interest to make the art gallery as lovely as the art pieces presented, but he feared to take the attention away from the galleries. Instead, the insides are designed in a way that would fully immerse the visitors into the artwork. The walls and ceilings are a stark white and the lighting is optimized to bring out the full colors and details the pieces have to offer.

The first floor is dedicated to local artists. Every month, Antoinette features a local artist for his gallery. There is an entire bulletin board dedicated to reviews, and Antoinette’s own opinions about their pieces. Antoinette only shows off the best artwork he can find, making these exhibits quite the delight for upper class looking for pieces to buy and resell. It is often said that Antoinette’s refined eye makes him a kingmaker in the art world.

The second floor is artwork from the West, and the third is artwork from the East. Antoinette makes sure that while all the pieces are admired, they are also respected. Antoinette does not tolerate cultural fetishism and ensures that the description of the pieces hold the necessary information and context for the pieces. Antoinette’s collection is expansive. They include rare historical gems from all over the world. Antoinette is always looking to purchase more pieces for these galleries, but he does not tolerate any kind of fraudulence. He has access to the finest set of art historians and lawyers to ensure his visitors will never look at rip-off artwork. Authenticity is key.

The last floor is Antoinette’s own gallery. It is smaller and not as carefully maintained as the others, and people are only allowed in there two at the time. People are free to sample Antoinette’s art, writing and music compositions for as long as they want to. Antoinette’s pieces are unique, haunting, and highly touted in the art world, but Antoinette has firmly declared that he is not selling any of them. Should anyone end up with an Antoinette original, it’s worth noting that they were originally intended as gifts.

Theater

A theater for on-stage performances. Antoinette is extremely fond of live theater, especially plays, operas, improv, orchestras, and bands. Not every other performer gets to perform on Antoinette’s stage. He carefully filters the performance to the best and brightest. This doesn’t necessarily mean famous. Antoinette has turned down many famous performers in favor of something he sees is more quality. His theater only has one stage, with at least one performance every week. At times, Antoinette would pull down the screen for movie screening. Antoinette is especially fond of indie French films.

At the ground floor, there’s a wide ballroom Antoinette uses for parties, dances, celebrations, and the like. Antoinette often uses this ballroom to celebrate cast members of a particular play or a successful artist exhibit. Other times, he throws lavish high society parties, where only the most cultured and elite are allowed in. Being associated with and invited by Julian Antoinette is an honor to many.
