Name: Liarri Delmoire
Age: 57
Birthday: October 9th
Gender: Female
Category: Teacher - Alteration magics and Alchemy
Class:
Appearance Description:
Liarri is a comely old doe, by her kind's standards Her once curved frame has developed a slight roundness in the middle from age, while her deep brown fur has grown a bit gray, mainly around her forehead, eyes and snout. Although she kept her black hair short and unnoticeable in her younger years, Liarri now keeps it long and tied into two braided loops pushed behind her ears. Her eyes seem to be the only thing untouched by time, as they still hold the warm shade of brown that earned her more than a few potential suitors in her younger years. Despite her aging appearance, Liarri still keeps a loving and welcoming smile towards he students and colleagues
Although her taste in clothes was much brighter and flamboyant at one point, Liarri's chosen apparel has grown much simpler and subdued; a white blouse with sleeves up to her wrists, and light green vest adorn her torso, while a tan skirt reaches down to her shins. Despite the fact she has hoof-like feet and hands and thus has no need for shoes or gloves, the magic teacher wears them anyway. As an added decoration to her wardrobe, she wears a frilled jabot and bonnet most days, although will sometimes forgo the jabot in favor of a simple brooch.
Personality Description:
Liarri's personality is best described as a kind mother who just wants to see that her kids are safe while having fun. She is a warm, loving woman who prefers to teach by demonstration and practicality rather than boring lectures and lengthy research papers, and goes to great lengths to ensure that her students fully understand what they are learning before moving on to the next lesson, rather than sticking to a schedule that inconveniences everyone. To this end, she can be described as somewhat feisty and outspoken when a decision seems unfair or biased in one direction. Always one for a good laugh, she enjoys a little joke every once and while, and tries to keep a conversation from getting too deep and personal while in public. In spite of this kindhearted and relaxed nature, Liarri is known to be quite the dictator in her classroom when she needs to be; her grading policy is among one of the strictest in the school, and her tolerance of delinquency is nigh nonexistent. She holds her students to a very high degree of scholarship and behavior; getting caught texting in her class is not advised.
Powers:
Master of alteration magics:
Having spent a good amount of her life practicing the arcane arts, Liarri is well versed in the school of alteration. As a school of magic that turns the fundamental properties of matter into their wielder's toy box, alteration can change the melting point of gold, cause skin to harden into armor, or any number of things that don't explicitly violate the laws of physics. Some details of what alteration can do include:
As one who has mastered the arts of alteration, Liarri is proficient in all the above areas, and thanks to her large pool of magical energy, she can cast a rather large variety of spells. However, like all magic users, her magical powers are limited ultimately by the amount of magical energy one possesses and the mental concentration of the caster, and Liarri is no exception. In addition, like most mages, the greater the effect a spell has, the more magical energy and concentration the spell is going to need. Even for a master like Liarri, this is unavoidable.
Master Alchemist:
Liarri's knowledge of alchemy is very deep, and her practice of alteration has enabled her to take her research further than most. At it's heart, alchemy is a study of matter, and the transmutation of matter through the application of magical energies. Years of research and experimentation have yielded a thorough appreciation for the governing principles of alchemy, namely the Law of Equivalent Exchange. Her knowledge of the runes and their meanings is almost absolute from countless hours of research and experimentation, while her ability to use them is even greater. However, for all her knowledge and understanding of materials and their properties and how to transmute them, she is constrained by several governing principles:
Biography:
Liarri isn't one to talk about her past much, not necessarily because she doesn't like where she came form, but rather because she's got a lot of other things to do, like teaching a class of budding mages not to blow themselves up. But, she'll give you a quick run down since your so interested:

As a school of magic that turns the fundamental properties of matter into their wielder's toy box, alteration can change the melting point of gold, cause skin to harden into armor, or any number of things that don't explicitly violate the laws of physics. Some details of what alteration can do include:
- Alteration affects the fundamental properties of matter. A competent wielder of alteration can cause two things to magnetize that wouldn't normally stick together, change the electric conductivity of a substance, or alter the boiling and freezing points of a substance. However, alteration does not include the ability to actually break the laws of physics. So, subatomic deconstruction is out of the question, as is manipulating gravity and other fundamental forces of the universe.
- Alteration also affects biology to an extent. A competent wielder of the school can alter their body temporarily to, for example, breathe underwater or, in another example, harden their skin to the hardness of the toughest steel. However, as these kinds of spells affect the biology of the caster, it takes an experienced user to cast correctly and are usually reserved for more advanced apprentices.
- Alteration can be used to block magical attacks, or absorb them entirely. Through defensive barrier spells, called wards, the caster can effectively disable the threat of any magical attack. However, wards can only be cast in front of the user, and take concentration to keep up. Also, the stronger the spell one is blocking, the more energy the caster has to put into the ward to block it.
- Like all alchemists, Liarri is limited by the Law of Equivalent Exchange, meaning that she cannot make something out of nothing. To elaborate, the law of equivalent exchange is divided into the Law of Conservation of Mass, which states that neither matter nor energy can be created from nothing, or destroyed to the point of elemental nonexistence, and the Law of Natural Providence, which states that an object or material made of a particular substance or element can only be transmuted into another object with the same basic makeup and properties of that initial material.
- Keeping the above limitation in mind, Liarri cannot perform alchemy on humans, or any organic being for that matter. It is not only considered taboo, but anyone who has tried to perform a transmutation on themselves or others have wound up either dead or maimed because they broke the Law of Equivalent Exchange. Such experiments were discouraged when Liarri was learning the science, and now that she teaches it, she outright bans them in her classroom.
- Any and all alchemy Liarri wishes to perform requires the use of a transmutation circle. Composed of a circle with trigrams and runes inside, the transmutation circle is the conduit for the magical energies that power the transmutation process. While runes and designs vary widely based on personal experience, research and ancient texts, as well as the desired effect, the circle is necessary for transmutation on any scale, and can be either inscribed on a permanent surface (laid in a table, carved in a tablet, stitched into a glove, etc.), or drawn on the spot, with chalk, ink, or even traced into the dirt.
Biography:
Liarri isn't one to talk about her past much, not necessarily because she doesn't like where she came form, but rather because she's got a lot of other things to do, like teaching a class of budding mages not to blow themselves up. But, she'll give you a quick run down since your so interested:
- She was born in a small village in Lithuania in 1958 to a mage and a mystic.
- About age 7, her mom started teaching her alteration magic, using the local communist soldiers for a couple discreet demonstrations, while her father began educating her in alchemy.
- In 1972, just before her fourteenth birthday, Liarri and family moved to neutral Sweden, where she continued her studies into the arcane arts
- At age 18, in 1976, Liarri was invited to Starlight Academy due to her powers, which she shortly accepted.
- Between 1976 and 1986, Liarri continued pursuing her studies in magic and alchemy, and during this time, also became an assistant to one of the magic teachers at the academy.
- In 1990, at the age of thirty two, Liarri became an instructor in alchemy and alteration magic, and remains in that position to this day.
Additional Information:
The jewel in Liarri's favorite brooch is actually the famed philosopher's stone. How she came into possession of it remains a mystery.
Liarri's courses have very high requirements for enrollment:
Her alteration class requires an advanced biology class, and an advanced physics class, while her alchemy class requires an advanced chemistry course. In addition, both classes require a basic magic theory course.
