Name: Vincenzo Torrigiano ("Veen-chèn-tso Tor-ri-jà-no" is as close as you can get to the correct pronunciation in English)
Nickname: Enzo ("En-tso")
Age: 14
Birthday: October 17th
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Category: Student
Class: High School

Appearance: Although possessing the classic features of a Sicilian male, with dark, wavy curls, warm chestnut eyes and skin that fluctuates between a light olive tan and a darker brown depending on the weather, Enzo would fit in with nearly any Mediterranean population. At nearly 6', he is tall both for his age and ethnicity, and while completely devoid of facial hair, he is easily mistaken for being several years older than merely fourteen, particularly due to his solid frame. Myriad scars cover his lithe, olive-colored limbs, reminders of his younger days of playing with other children among the rocks, beaches and ancient ruins of his home town. He carries himself in an open manner, with little tension built up in his generally relaxed posture.

Personality: Inquisitive and thoughtful, Enzo is easily lost in his own head, focusing on distractions that seem to draw only his attention. He does have a competitive streak, particularly as far as verbal sparring is concerned, but has learned to keep this in check when interacting with those who don't. Analytically minded and highly adaptive, Enzo is good at solving problems and dealing with unexpected situations. He tries to avoid making emotionally based decisions or judgements, and although having no qualms about disagreement on logical, factual level, he does not enjoy interpersonal conflict when it gets entangled in the subjective. As such, he can often find it tiring to be around those individuals who tend to drag their emotions into what he perceives as an objective matter. Unfortunately, this means that he has little experience interpreting his own emotions.

Enzo prefers to avoid making choices for as long as possible, waiting for the moment when he feels he has enough information about a given situation, but sometimes this can lead to indecisiveness. Extremely disorganized, Enzo dislikes planning ahead, and would much rather react to situations as they occur. While quite good at this mode of operation, he often suffers for it when preparation is warranted. Even so, he is quite optimistic, cheerful, and tends to have a sense of humor about most things.

Powers:

(stronger) Artifice: Enzo can imbue objects with an ability or enhancement, usually by inscribing them with a potentially destructible seal. The capacity of an object in terms of the strength and number of enhancements it can contain is dependent on a number of factors, including the inherent strength of the materials, the construction, surface area, etc. Although the possibilities for different forms of enhancement are practically limitless, new, complicated or powerful inscriptions must be practiced and perfected before they function properly. Seals also act as a ward against direct control of an object by another person's power.

There are four basic types of enhancement, and any given object can at maximum contain one seal of each category. They are as follows:

  • Transmutation: Inscribing an object (or in the case of fluids, an object that they are in contact with) such that it changes at the chemical level. This is far easier when changing a substance into something similar, and becomes more difficult with a greater difference between the initial and target materials. After being performed, the seal will dissolve. This is the only category that requires only a temporary seal, and as such is the only kind that can be performed multiple times on one object.

  • Augmentation: This form of permanent inscription gives the object a passive effect or that is bestowed upon the wearer, wielder or operator. Common forms of this could include articles of clothing or other wearable/holdable items that increase or decrease the individual's physical attributes such as strength, speed, etc.

  • Imbuement: A trickier form of artifice, this gives an item or object an ability that is activated at will by the user or by some kind of external stimulus. This is the most likely variety to dangerously 'backfire' if not done properly. This could include items such as a rod that shoots fire, a door that opens or closes automatically, etc. Usually these abilities consist of a single action rather than granting the user a full ability.

  • Soulbinding: By far the most difficult, this involves the binding of a sentient being to an inanimate object, effectively giving it a substitute body. By default the seal will allow the object to form its own consciousness, but it is also hypothetically to attach the soul of a previously living being to an object. The requirements for the object itself are quite strict, and generally it takes a hand made mid sized object made of durable materials. Additionally, the seal must be written in blood.

At the moment, as a fairly young individual who has only recently been granted the freedom to fully explore his abilities, Enzo is still in need of quite a bit of practice to make use of their full capability. That said, he thoroughly enjoys the act of creation, and recently has been quite prolific in his usage of artifice

(weaker) Mechanical Affinity: Enzo has an inherent affinity for and understanding of the mechanics of structures both artificial and biological. The result is that he is quite agile, and skilled both at the martial arts he practices, as well as figuring out the function of various contraptions that he might encounter. Additionally, upon contact with a tool or vehicle, he can memorize its function within minutes of simply operating or playing with it. This ability is particularly pronounced in the items he's modified through artifice, and is also very effective in tandem with learning from an external source such as the internet, a book, or personal instruction.

Biography:

Born in the coastal town of Castellamare del Golfo, or "Casteddamari" as it is called in the local Sicilian dialect, Vincenzo spent many of his early days exploring the natural and historical wonders of the area, including the nearby ancient Greek ruins in which local children would play constantly. At the age of six, his parents decided to move to the northern city of Bologna, and in order to fit in they quickly abandoned their native tongue in favor of the standard Italian dialect, leading to his forgetting Sicilian nearly completely.

He learned English at school and in various immersion programs his parents sent him to, with the latter being far more useful, allowing him to gain fluency and mostly lose his non-native accent. By middle school his power began to manifest, and he kept it secret up until the end of his eighth grade year when he moved from Italy to the island of Manta Carlos following the reception of an invitation to join their high school program. Although previously having wanted to attend linguistic high school, he decided that it made more sense to first pursue the goal of 'figuring out' his previously latent abilities.
