Hal Dionne

Hal's childish face and his short height of only 5ft flat makes him easily mistaken to no older than 12 years old upon first glance. His face is round and soft, skin tone a warm fair, and with the addition of wide, rounded eyes, it makes it hard to tell he's older than he really looks.

He keeps his light brown hair in a short cut, swept to the side but left to spike into a mess at the ends no matter what he does. He hasn't tended to it for a while so it's reaching down to his shoulders now and he's found to keep it tamed with half of it pulled back in a little ponytail. His eyes are a calm electric blue, glistening with childish wonder, but muddled with a slight furrow of his brows, which sort of makes him somewhat unapproachable to some people.

He's pretty comfortable with semi-formal wear, but on some days, he just wears ordinary hoodies or printed shirts with loose jeans or cargo shorts on. Since reaching 12th grade, he'd gone back to wearing more stylish street casuals when he goes out. He wears glasses due to poor eyesight.

When going out on his astral body, he'd look exactly the same as how he is in his physical body except that he would have a translucent blue cord behind him, appearing and behaving like a tail. His astral body isn't tangible but there seems to be something similar to a psychic barrier around him that makes his astral form feel like a noticeable concentration of cold air.​

A few words another person would describe Hal with are: immature, rude, impulsive, irritable, and a little irrational. These aren't completely lies but they are a bit of a stretch. Upon first meeting Hal, he'd come off like he's most definitely not the nicest person to meet. He's frank to speak his mind, though more oftentimes sarcastic and snarky. He doesn't pick people to throw some sass at and that's just how he works.

But once you get to know this guy, he isn't as unapproachable as he looks. Underneath all the crabbiness is a big heart. Hal is rather in touch with his sensitive side, a romantic and wears his heart on his sleeve. He gets pretty awkward at times, but also rather passionate about things that interest him. He's a bit moody to add to the list. He's still working out of his self-defeating tendencies and doing his best to... well, do his best.

Hal has a range of hobbies that include video games, comics, books, arts and even baking. He's got a bit of a talent for the visual arts if his sketches are anything to go by, and he's got great potential to being a fashion designer. In addition to that, his decoration skills aren't half-bad either. This kid is also an adventure seeker and a treasure hunter. Horror and suspense are his favorite genre, as well as sci-fi. He finds it enjoyable dabbling into things that aren't very well understood like the paranormal and supernatural. He buries himself in movies and documentaries of these.

There is in fact a long list of things Hal really hates but at the top of it is people poking fun of him because of his appearance. One of his insecurities is his height, and it only grows as he gets older. He doesn't like people learning of his, uh, less masculine interests as this is also part of his insecurities brought on by his upbringing. Along with his impulsiveness, Hal is easy to bring along the flow without much thought.

He doesn't know how to swim and sinks like a brick, so he'd developed a fear for open water like large pools and he's terrified of boarding boats. He also doesn't take a liking for animals brought on by bad experiences as a kid but he's been working on not freaking out around animals.​

Hal has the ability to separate his consciousness from his physical body. Apparently inherited from his telepath ancestry, he first discovered this ability when he was 12 after a sneeze, afterwards realizing his physical body was lying in front of him but this was dismissed as a hallucination.

His astral body is visible to most telepaths and psychics but otherwise, he's hidden from view unless he tries to make them notice him. For others who don't have an affinity to spiritual energies, the most he can appear is a strange shadow. His astral body is mostly intangible, but he isn't able to pass through solid objects such as walls due to the psychic barrier surrounding him. He can try to phase through screens and nets but it makes him uncomfortable. His astral body is light, he more or less hovers over solid ground and he's able to glide with the wind, letting him be able to make large leaps and hover farther above ground for short amounts of time.

Hal can enhance the psychic barrier around his astral form by parts, letting him be able to pick up objects but that's almost it. Psychics and telekinetics are possibly the only few who can touch his astral form without disturbing (or passing through) the psychic barrier. Disturbing and passing through the psychic barrier makes him feel nauseous. He can't really feel the contact aside from that but he can still detect intense heat from open fire, or the cold from the presence of ice. He still doesn't have full control over this ability and sometimes accidentally "drops" his body. He has cases of dizzy spells and fainting due to being temporarily disconnected with his physical form.

While he never tells people due to security issues, his major weakness in this form is his "tail" — his lifeline. He almost had an incident with this, causing an almost disconnection with his physical body that he could feel the palpitations when he'd returned. If the line is cut, he will lose connection with his physical body and lead to his death, caused by cardiac arrest.

On the other hand, his physical body possesses no form of defense and can be hurt even while he's out. Injuries inflicted on his physical body can be felt when he returns to it. Leaving his body for extended periods will cause it to degenerate. He can be locked out of his own body using charms and similar things and can cause his death.​

Hal seems to be have latent ability concerning technology or electricity in general but so far, all he's ever done is short circuiting electronics around him when he's under pressure and it's not even at will. He sometimes has static over himself when in bad moods.​

Born Harper Daniel Dionne, Hal is the only child of a powerful businessman and raised to follow in his footsteps as the perfect heir. He didn't have the best relationship with his parents since they were distant, which he tried to believe was because of work. Even so, he didn't ask so much and remained as the proper son they expected him to be.

In relative terms, he was raised in a normal family in a normal neighborhood in France. No one could have expected Hal would have any powers either, not even his parents who didn't believe in the family legend passed down the ages. He was a proper young boy: polite, respectful to his elders, helpful, and well-behaved: easy to tell order around in some senses. Though he had some peculiar friends, his parents seemed to be convinced he wasn't easily influenced, but they might have hoped too much.

Hal wasn't a troublemaker in any standard but he had a knack of getting himself in bad places with his friends which sometimes caught the attention of his parents. His discovery of his powers was from an accident that could have put him in a coma when he was 12. It was a few months after the accident when he received the letter of invitation for him to Starlight Academy which his parents. Much to his surprise, his parents conceded and allowed him to be transferred the following year, hoping these would keep him away from his peers.

For the first two years, he kept a low profile within the school but ever so slowly he expanded his reach, wandering around when he didn't have school to worry about, first opening up a blog until he settled in on his own, normalizing interaction with schoolmates and fellow islanders alike.​
