Appearance Description:

Something of the classy scientist type, Aternity is a six foot two giant in comparison to his wife. The Icelandic sports reasonably short, semi-unkempt purple hair, orange eyes, and glasses that make him look smarter than he really is. (Although he's still considered pretty brilliant.) Although he has some features of an Eastern European, Aternity is by all intents and purposes considered Scandinavian, his speech very much having the distinctive Icelandic tint to it. Most often you'll find him in a pair of black or deep green slacks, sweater vest, and a bow tie, a small tip of the hat to Mr. Bill Nye.

Strangely, his lab coat is kept incredibly clean no matter how much he is seen working. Other scientists have yet to figure out exactly why.

Personality Description:
Sarcastic, cynical and laid back are three ways of describing this third generation mage of the Awren family. There are two sides to the family: the scientific and the whimsical, Aternity of whom fits into the former of the two classifications along with his older brother Solaris. His younger years were filled with general high school and college angst; and his rebellious streak took the form of a progressive rock band. He was often cocky, way too sure of himself, and was quick to dismiss any criticisms toward him.

Then he found a woman. And had a child. And nothing really changed. He's just less vocal about everything now. Aternity's family is his world, even more so than his job and 'extremely loud' music. This world often extends itself, and now Ternie finds himself quieter than usual. He no longer actively boasts or makes outbursts towards differing opinions, instead preferring to sabotage those opinions through more subversive means. Aternity also has a difficult time turning down a good technical challenge, still believing in his mental superiority. Thankfully his wife is an exceptional ego dampener.

Powers: Dimensional Correspondence (Major), Electrical Flux (Minor)

Dimensional Correspondence is the name given by Aternity to a set of abilities that allow him to perceive and manipulate spacial relationships, patterns and connections that otherwise exist outside of normal space. Just as a wedding ring links partners across vast distances, so too do unique powers link each and every supernatural, much like a fingerprint. These connections are what drives each of Aternity’s four abilities.

This first ability is completely passive, and it was allows Aternity to use the rest of his abilities to their fullest extent. By touching and holding an object, he can sense who and where the person is in the world. The effect and hence, accuracy of the effect grows with the strength of the connection. A wedding band will almost certainly identify the owner and where in the world they are, while a recently eaten half-sandwich will more likely yield only a general area. If one end of the connection involves a supernatural, this greatly enhances Aternity’s ability to detect who is involved due to the unique signature of each in existence. This ability gives Aternity the ability to perfectly judge distances between each other.

The fancy word for teleportation, this power allows Aternity and other patterns he can touch to be transported nearly instantaneously to a place he can see...or has a powerful connection with using the first power, such as a picture. Since distance is meaningless, this ability works anywhere on Earth, and with almost anything. So long as he can touch the object or person himself...he can move it. Interestingly, because of Aternity’s innate ability to judge distance, he doesn’t end up in walls unless he WANTS to. By instantaneously expanding a section of low-density wall like drywall or sheets of plywood, the singularity that expands from a point inside can actually be used to blow the wall out using his own body. Physics fun! This is not possible on reinforced walls where a singularity cannot be produced.

A more advanced form of telelocation, colocation is the opening of a sustained portal that allows Aternity more control over the manipulation of the spacial grid around him. Both living patterns and objects are capable of being moved through these paired doorways instantaneously. Once again, as long as it can fit into the door, it will appear on the other side, much as if the two locations were stacked on each other, or next to each other, even if they might be a good distance apart. Objects in motion retain their physics passing through the portal as if there was no intervention at all. This is how Ternie can ‘teleport’ things remotely as well. Two sets of linked doorways are possible at once.

The after effects (something something electrons) of his spacial manipulations allow Aternity to discharge large static electrical bursts. He can throw lightning. Sort of. Taking a lesson from Lumine Symington, his arm can act as a channel for these electrical bursts, or take the form of a small super electromagnetic cannon.

Weaknesses:

Since it’s a passive ability, there isn’t much limiting it. The strength of the connection is ultimately how Aternity makes his power work, and if it’s too weak, a teleport or colocation may not work as intended, most likely he’ll end up a good long ways away from where he was attempting to go. His ability to sense out the area around him can be done even in absolute darkness, although this ability is limited to about 100-150 feet if he cannot see.

Aternity must have some sort of connection to the place or person he wants to teleport to. This can be as simple as being in line-of-sight, to using a picture, or a very strong physical or mental link like a musician to their instrument. Because correspondence deals with patterns as a whole, he cannot teleport chunks of things, like walls out of buildings directly. The object must also be mostly unrooted from the ground. Tents and stuff are okay. Entire houses and buildings are not. This isn’t to say however that physics can’t be used to break down the wall...and THEN move it.

Uses a lot of the limits from telelocation with some extra caveats. Since correspondence once again is based around patterns and connections as a whole...a persons heart cannot be teleported out of the body. However, a belt off their pants can! Besides that, sustaining colocated doorways and wormholes means that Aternity cannot telelocate without closing those doorways first. Additionally, Aternity MUST be in line of sight to open these doorways. This means he can open say, a portal on a wall, and move to somewhere else to open the exit that wasn’t originally where he could see, but he cannot just will the exit into existence without seeing for himself where it will go, even if there is a connection. Nothing rooted to the ground in a significant way can be colocated. These doorways are currently limited to about 10 feet in diameter at best.

This static charge, when released, produces a copious amount of heat that must be quickly dissipated before the resulting effects, like burns, can take hold. His body cannot naturally dissipate this heat, and instead Aternity must rely on his cybernetic arm and other small implants to take the blow. This burst of heat is powerful enough to fuse many of his electronics together, and thus he must rely on an array of heat sinks built into his major cybernetic parts. Because he's limited on how many he can carry, he's limited to how many bursts he can emit before having to reload his stash, usually two or three. Even if he wasn't limited by the number of heat sinks he carries, residual heat causes other parts to fuse and become inoperable. These bursts cannot be controlled in any other way except through technology.

Discovered when and how?:
It was known when Aternity was born that he would have abilities. His older sister, a prime mage, immediately knew the type.

Biography:
The third spawn of four from the famed (or infamous) mage, Aurora Awren-Silivasi, Aternity is Terrene's brother, and like Aurora's other children, a complete rebel in his own right. Although born on Horizon like most of her other children, Aternity spent most of his younger life living in Iceland, where he spent time with his older brother, gaining an impressive knack for technology.

What he didn't gain from his brother however was instead gained from Aurora's musical tastes. His skills as a bassist left him to start a progressive rock band with three others attending the University of Iceland. (This band was mildly popular, but it didn't really take off until his older sister's children Arkady and Wesley took over.) Although majoring in machine learning, Ternie had something of a specialty in cybernetics, possibly due to interactions with his brother. The specialty would end up later to be extremely useful.

Although Ternie had known he had abilities his entire life, they often ended up giving him more problems than expected. Broken bones, contusions, lacerations and concussions were a constant threat, and more often than not, Ternie's trips to the hospital were attended by a single nurse who got to know him well: Emeraude. His first interactions were as expected; he was constantly a pain, and to him, she was constantly one back.

Obviously there was love in the air. And then abilities on accident, and lunch.

The dates just kept coming, and Ternie finally settled down. When the then Emeraude Awren landed a job where her abilities could be used, Aternity went with, taking a job with his brother's technology company with him. He'd gotten good at building things, especially prosthetics, and no doubt an island of supernaturals would probably end up needing them at some point.

He certainly did.

Notes:
- Aternity's cybernetic left arm is the basis for Lumine's. He says he lost his natural arm in an accident, which is totally plausible. In reality, he refused to let anyone else undergo human trials for the machine, and instead used himself. Thankfully it worked...mostly.
