Aedan came to the school often enough, usually to use the library or or one of the power training rooms. So he still had a general idea of what was going on, he occasionally talked to one of his old teachers and heard the various rumors going about. One such rumor was of a loss, a local witch had passed, leaving a grieving girlfriend and a adopted so alone.

He'd just finished talking to one of the professors, they were helping him research his abilities and he was on his way out. That is until he saw her, he'd seen her picture floating about somewhere, his sharp mind remembering who she was.

Now Aedan had faced loss, faces horrors and pain and did his best to move forward. So seeing someone no doubt suffering hit a bit of a soft spot for him, so he decided to approach her. "Hello," he'd say with a calm smile, "don't think we've met, I'm Aedan."

Things have been weird recently. A lot of her classmates had walked up to her and treated her to some food and basically giving her a good, fun time. That was usually what she did for them. It was just all so sudden, it just took her by surprise. Yet, she felt that it was more about her having fun, rather than all of them having fun. It just felt strange. Did she accidentally return to an alternate dimension? Oh who was she kidding, she knew why they did it. All of them knew what happened. All of them knew what she had. In truth, it just made things awkward. It made everything hurt. But she always kept a wide smile on her face. People worried too much. The only person who understood her was of course her cousin, who just didn't bring it up. Someone called out to her, and she greeted them warmly. "Oh hi there! I'm Lorencia. Are you a student here? Because I don't think I've seen you before. If you are, then I'm pretty sure you're not in my class. Oh! Are you new here?!"

"Good to meet you Lorencia," he'd say with his usual calm smile, "and I used to be a student." He'd glance around a little, "graduated not that long ago, but I still come here often enough, mostly to visit my sister," surrogate sister technically, but he didn't see a point in bringing up that specific fact.

He'd chuckle, "I miss it sometimes, going to class and all that," it had taken some adjusting when he'd first arrived, but he'd managed it, "probably the only place on Earth where you can learn basic math and then go down the hall to learn a new magic spell." He himself didn't use magic, but it did interest him, so he'd kept an eye on it.

"What about you?" he'd say, tilting his head a little, "you new? The school seems to always be bringing in new students." His eyes would glow as always as they conversed.

"Oh, so you're an old student here, AND your sister's here too? I shouldn't be surprised, but I guess I forgot this is the only school here." She chuckled. "Yeah, I heard that most of the other schools outside the island don't even know magic. Except for those magic tricks, but they say it was just mostly slight of hand, and misdirection, and not real magic." Its a wonder how those people manage to survive without even knowing magic their whole life, but that was what Devias wanted to know. As soon as the two of them learn enough in this island, they'll be heading out to the bigger world known as the narrow reality, which was a pretty big misnomer. "Oh, my cousin and I came here a year and ten months ago. It's been pretty fun."

"Yup, it's all just a part of my life now, but I didn't know any of it existed a few years ago," it seemed longer than that, a different life all together in a way, "my abilities aren't magic based actually, poked at the idea of learning some spells but it's something I never seemed to be able to pick up." He'd form a tiny statue of a dog from what looked like light blue glass that had a slight glow, "just some energy stuff," setting it down it'd break up and vanish.

"You arrived not all that long after me then," he'd say with a chuckle, "I've been here two years and four months now," again, it felt like a lot longer than that. "Guessing you're used to magic then?" he'd ask curiously, seemed she thought the narrow reality not having magic was strange and unusual.

"You came to the island but not from the narrow reality, so I'm guessing another realm," he'd smile, "I've never actually traveled to any other realms actually, I've been to space a few times for work though."

It was interesting to hear what this random stranger had been doing. She didn't really get what he meant that his abilities weren't magic-based when he made something out of thin air. Maybe that thing was actually a part of him and he's just shapeshifting it to look like glass? That was possible, right? The octopus can change its color to whatever it wants, and it could fit into any shape. Surely it wasn't so far fetched that-- wait, it was energy stuff? He could control energy in non-magical ways? Did he have some kind of very advanced device? Consider her interest peaked. "Yeah, my whole life I was surrounded by magic, but we usually call it arcane, arcana, mana, it has a lot of names, but that's because there are a lot of different types all working together." Oh how he'd be surprised to see just how much magic was in her world. He'd have to wear goggles so his eyes wouldn't roll down the islands. "Yeah, my world's kind of exists outside of this universe, as my brainy cousin says."

He'd chuckle, "a few years ago I wouldn't believe you, didn't believe in magic or anything," the idea of an entire world built on and around magic certainly was fascinating. "My family was more into science than any else," or at least his father was, his mother was more of an artist, she loved music, she would be the one to believe in magic.

"Though....a few teachers here have said that magic is just a form of science that hasn't been fully explored yet," he wasn't sure if magic was something that could be understood by viewing it as a science, he'd be willing to try that approach though.

"What was your world like?" he'd ask curiously, he didn't want to imagine stereotypical fantasy worlds though that was one of the first things that popped into his mind.

"Magic is a science for us back home, so your teachers weren't far off when they said that." It was kind of funny when she and Devias talked about how people defined magic in this world in the past, using it as a convenient excuse to frame something they didn't understand. Unfortunate that those who knew magic were treated so poorly though. As Devias would say it, it was a miracle anyone got anywhere when they shunned things that didn't make sense to them yet, instead of studying it. "Well, our little floating archipelago is all there is. There's no big universe like here where you can go from planet to planet. We just have islands floating above each other. No stars, just the boundary of the void we can't escape by just flying through it just fast enough. It's a lot different there, I don't even know how to begin describing it."

Aedan tried to picture her world and assumed he was far off, "it sounds fascinating, a place where magic is a natural part of everything." He'd love to visit such a place, see it for himself, experiment and explore, it sounded truly wonderful and fascinating.

"I often think of how at one point the Earth was like that at point," he'd chuckle, "obviously not made of floating islands, but with magic being a bigger part of it." He'd nod, "we know pretty much all of the myths and legends on magic are true, so at one point magic was common here it was just....forgotten."

He thought a moment, "so if your world has magic as a part of it, then you must too." The young man tilted his head, "it'd make sense for the people to have magic flowing through them if the very world does."

"Yeah, if that were true, then it'd really be a shame. But still its a surprise how people could live without magic. Both figuratively and literally." Lorencia was sure Devias wrote extensively about that fact. While it was true that the archives had a lot of worlds listed as with little to no magic, living here had made her more excited at the notion. However, the longer she thought about it, the less impressive it actually was. The people here just did things differently, but the idea was the same. So transitioning wasn't as hard. "Yup! Our blood has magical properties. It's weird having to say that."
