Nia couldn't believe what she was about to do. She sat in a chair outside the doctors office, her heart beating a mile a minute. It felt like she had been waiting for hours but she could tell by the clock hanging on the wall that she had only been there for ten minutes. Could time be anymore painful and slow?
Finally the door across from her creaked open and the small girl jumped slightly in her seat.
"Nia, the doctor will see you now."
She felt the weight in her stomach increase from a rock to a boulder. She wasn't ready for this. There was no way she was ready for this. But she had to do it. She had been taking her new migraine medicine for a month now and her therapist had said that if she wanted to continue taking the medication she would have to go see a doctor first. The migraine medicine had really helped and she wanted to continue using it...but she wasn't so sure about this doctor thing. Last time, it had not gone well.
But this time was different than last time. This time she had Aedan. She looked up at her friend who had been sitting next to her as if waiting for him to tell her whether or not she actually had to go through with this.
They had talked often about Nia's concerns about going back to the doctor, with increasing frequency as the date of the appointment moved closer. They had first met the day that Nia had been given the new medication and so her friend was well aware of how it had helped her and how it was something she needed to continue using. He also knew just how much she was dreading this appointment. It was evident in her shaking hands, short and shallow breaths, and panicked expression.
