Dusty...

The faint click of combat boots echoed in the hall. Above the boots were baggy black pants and a bright yellow tank top. Up even farther was the pretty face of a girl with brown eyes and bright pink hair. She walked with an important air, as if she was the daughter of a king or in charge of something. Really, she wasn't, but it was image that mattered, in her opinion.

As she walked down the hall, she glanced occasionally inside empty classrooms full of dust, the windows cracked and covered in cobwebs. She closed her eyes, walked for a few more seconds, turned and felt for the first door. She opened her eyes and turned the handle of room 345.

Walking inside, her first impression was, "Ew." She said it out loud, as if that made it more final. She walked over to the once green chalkboard, now pale gray, and wrote DANICA with her finger through the dust. Wiping off the dust on her pants, she drew a circle with her feet and blew the dust away. She sat down cross-legged in the middle and took a few deep breaths. She summoned her powers, and let them flow out freely, letting darkness and light do what they wanted in the old, dusty, but perfect room.

Peace and quiet... just what he needed... The fire spirits decided to take their business elsewhere for a while...

Leaning casually against the windowsill, Aike stared into the distance, into the forest. Longing for the peace and darkness of the wilderness, this was the next best thing. His shirt sleeve brushed up against the grimy window as he turned around to face the inside of the filthy, dark room. Dust covered everything. Glancing at the decayed chalkboard, he sighed, puffing up a bit of filth off the desk infront of him. About to zone out again, the doorhandle turned and someone came barging into the room. Standing strait up, without bumping into anything, he stared at her while she crossed the room, oblivious to his presence. Seeing her write her name, he wondered why anyone would want to let others know they were hanging around here, for he was clueless.

Combat boots, baggy pants, and a tank top, toped off with pink hair... Great. Seeing her sit down (and to this he made a disgusted face), he cleared his throat and leaned back against the windowsill.

Just as tiny pinpricks of light began to swirl in intricate patterns in front of Danica, someone cleared their throat. Danica lost her concentration and froze, barely noticing the specs evaporating. She turned slowly to see a boy leaning against the window behind her. From the look on his face, she could tell he wasn't pleased to see her. He had the same stereotypical look her older sister always had when she saw Danica's hair.

"What?" she asked, staring at him and raising her eyebrows.

Opening his mouth to say something, he clicks his jaws shut. Pausing a moment, obviously contemplating something, he says, "Forget it. Continue." He shrugs, yet again dusting off part of the window behind him with his once white tee-shirt.

Danica rolled her eyes as he shrugged. Fine and continue? Puh-leez. She could tell he wanted to say something, and now she was curious.

"If you're going to say something, go ahead and say it." She would have continued, but she couldn't concentrate with someone else in the room.

Aike closes his eyes and sighs. He starts talking just before opening them again. "Why would you write your name on the chalkboard?" He pauses momentarily and watches her before giving a start and adding, "Sorry, but I find it... interesting. By the way... I like your hair." Tilting his head sideways, his hair falling in step and revieling one of his red, oddly patterned eyes, he gets a better look and inquires, "Why color it?"

Good question. Why had Danica written her name on the chalkboard. "I... don't know... just felt like it, I guess. I do stuff on impulse." Why was he asking? Why did he want to know?

"I like my hair too. And why color it? Because I'm blonde. I hate being blonde. Any color to get rid of it and I'm fine. And why dye it boring colors like brown? I'm being creative here!"

Aike smiles and brushes some hair from an eye, looking at her while speaking softly, slowly getting quieter as he progresses. "Hey, I never said it was bad. Looks good on you. Besides, I'm a fan of creativity. Next time, try turquoise or something." He smiles and looks down, obviously lost in a thought. With two slow shakes of his head, he looks back up, this time to the chalkboard. "You came here to be alone, I'm sure, but wouldn't that attract attention?"

Danica rolled her eyes. "It's usually turquoise."

"Um, no. People don't look in classrooms and decide 'Hey, there's a name on that chalkboard! Someone's inside!' They look in, see no one, and go 'Hey, there's no one in there! I'm going to walk away.'" She paused. "Except for me, of course. I just barge in on people."

He shrugged, "What about green? Yeah, you might look like a Fraggle, but hey..."

Grinning, Aike said, "And it's more like "Hey, there's a name on the chalkboard! Someone's already been in here... Next!" He paused, glancing at the door. "And when they don't see anything, they want to get a closer look... perhaps writing their name somewhere, it seems."

"To tell the truth, I came in here to be alone. Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to leave, it's just... I finally got a break from those troublesome fire... things. I thought I'd visit an abandoned room to stare out a decrepid window into space. Besides... I don't get much human contact." He stops to turn his head and look out the window behind him, adding quietly, "...Friendly human contact."
